War in Ukraine

Except we should have kept supplying Japan's involvement? We can trade with who we want. We didnt like what Japan was doing, so we said no more oil. It was Japan that chose violence. And shortly after we declared war on Japan, Germany declared on us. So again they chose to involve us. The outside world kept reaching in and dragging us to war.
Ras doesn’t like standing up to actual evil. He wants innocent victims to be killed or assaulted because “it’s not his business”

No I think it's bad by whoever does it, it's not just Ukraine doing it in this conflict. Remember two of the justifications Putin has used has been to protect Russia and Russians, that's nationalist in and of itself, and empire rebuilding, comparing himself to Peter the Great. Not sure when the "ultra" tag gets thrown on but launching a full scale invasion is pretty extreme in everyone's book but your Russian bias.

Well ultranationalist by itself I have no particular issue with. The actions some of them take is certainly a considerable problem, as we are seeing from both sides.
And the ultranationalist he is playing whataboutism with was assassinated in 1959… by the KGB.

"Lied to".

Kind of like "Iraq definitely has WMDs" circa 2003? The primary rationale for Gulf War 2 was simply fabricated.

This is what governments do. But in the end, the simple question begged is, "What is the right thing to do here?"

Did the ends justify the means with Saddam? Was the US and the world a better place with him dead, or did we simply trounce a sovereign country unjustly?

Sovereign Ukraine was similarly invaded by Russia without "legitimate" casus belli. In the end, would the world be a better place if Russia wipes out Ukraine and annexes it?

I think not.

And that is what this war is all about.
I think it's pretty safe to say the world is not a better place with Sadam gone. ISIS spawned directly from removing him. And that has destabilized the entire region.

Its crazy to think that Russia has lost 38,000 troops in Ukraine in 142 days. By comparison, the United States lost approximately 7,100 troops in Afghanistan and and Iraq combined in 16 years.
Yeah even if you half the Russian losses it's still ugly.

I usually split the difference between what Ukraine and Russia report.

Of course Russia doesnt allow an official tally....Court Bans Publication Of Information On Russian Military Death Toll In Ukraine

Just more of that freedom Ras loves from Russia.

Ahhh the M270s are now in theater.

That makes 13 HIMARS/M270s on the ground with 4 more en route.

Of note:

"Cold War doctrine for the M270 was for the vehicles to spread out individually and hide until needed, then move to a firing position and launch their rockets, immediately move away to a reloading point, then move to a completely new hiding position near a different firing point. These shoot-and-scoot tactics were planned to avoid susceptibility to Soviet counterbattery fire. One M270 firing 12 M26 rockets would drop 7,728 bomblets, and one MLRS battery[clarification needed] firing 108 rockets had the equivalent firepower of 33 battalions of cannon artillery.

...One launcher firing twelve rockets can completely blanket one square kilometer with submunitions."

To be fair, this is a real war while Afghanistan was an insurgency war. Nations cannot stand up to US military so they resort to insurgency crap. That works well against USA because we care about rules of war, hearts and minds, and civilian targets.

It doesn't work against countries like Russia that would just kill everyone to stop an insurgency (innocent or not).

TikTok Accused of Hampering Ukraine war crimes investigations: report

Activists and lawyers who have been trying to use TikTok to gather evidence of war crimes in Ukraine say they face roadblocks from the Chinese-owned app, according to a report.

As videos from Ukrainian and Russian soldiers and civilians flood TikTok, activists and lawyers have called on the app to better preserve and hand over videos that could potentially be used as evidence in war crimes investigations and prosecutions, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

But TikTok, which is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance, deletes nearly 90% of videos that it considers “inappropriate” before anyone sees them, according to the report.

He seems pretty Christian to me. I mean, he invades countries and stuff, and kills a lot of people. In any American church I've ever been to, the Christians pray for their invading soldiers and never ever pray for the civilians in the countries their soldiers invade, including the infants that die in the war. I bet Putin is just like our Christians. I bet he is!

Clown post of the year candidate.

Nice.

To be ignorant enough of the true workings of American churches to type out the above post....i would bet you have never been an actual registered member of a church and likely only been a visitor sparingly as an (probably young?) Adult. Local churches are where the rubber meets the road: handing out more food to those in need from their food pantries, assisting in and spearheading local service projects, counseling and aiding those folks struggling whether from a simple divorce splitting up a home to rape/crime victims trying to cope with reality or help families gutted by the death of a parent or child...or incarceration. The list is too long to be attempted here when it comes to all of the GOOD things that real churches do to help complete strangers...often in other countries as well.

Churches do what government entitlement programs CLAIM they will do when foisted upon taxpayers...they help those who need it most . Every. Single. Day. They will also welcome you or anyone else into their "church family" and love, care, and pray for you in YOUR time of need. Whether it is because you lost your job...your spouse died of covid...or you are simply struggling with addiction or something else.

I am sad that you have such a cynical view of churches and Gods children in general. You should try visiting a few in your area...i bet theres 1 that feels like home to you and yours.May God bless you and your family...from 1 sinner to another.

I'm sure Russia was waiting on the right opportunity. I just think the Afghanistan failure, the constantly ******* with Russia, and the clear incompetence in the US Administration gave them all the reasons needed to move forward with what they wanted to do. To your point about picking up the phone, well this administration has consistently mocked Russia and Putin publically not only over the last 1 1/2 years but in the years before. That's not good for diplomacy or good relations. The only country they won't say a word about is China.

This. Period.

Or we lost less than twice as many while fighting a "land war in Asia" for what ...5years in Vietnam? Right on communist Chinas doorstep no less. With our enemies being aided and supplied by all of their neighbors. Including the Chicoms massing 500,000 men at the border and beyond.

Because Russia is militarily incompetent.

They still do not have air supremacy which is laughable..

I havent seen them fly ANYTHING worth flying over Ukraine in weeks or perhaps months now. Only what MiG 23/27 Floggers traveling at most a couple hundred feet above ground and as fast as their crappy aerodynamics and propulsion will allow them? Even these seem to be getting shot down pretty frequently due to MANPADs, Stingers etc....when we get our SAM setups in theatre then Ukraine will finally have what theyve begged for since day1...an enforced "no-fly zone" over Ukraine.
