War in Ukraine

We've pushed them towards China due to sanctions and NATO positioning. That is not exactly the most ideal alliance for Russia considering that the two countries have disputes about the Far East territories.
And while we sit here bickering about another Western society (Russia) the Chinese have just bought another US port, a handful of US power plants, and more farmland around American air bases.

This is your opinion and not fact. The moment China tries to push openly and very hard into Russia's Central Asia sphere, you think the Russians (who you seem to decry as some big bad evil empire) are going to stand by and wait? And you think Russia genuinely has zero interest in aligning with the US? If that's actually the case, it's only because three quarters of our political establishment and their useful idiots in the citizenry are pretending it's the 1960s and the enemy that is the USSR is at our doorstep.

Maybe we ought to try a friendlier hand instead of trying to stoke a war over a chunk of land that we don't have use for.

Yes, let’s play friends with the guy invading his neighbor for no good reason.

This much is clear. Russia does not respect the leadership in the United States. It all goes back to that.

I remember discussing with an ignorant friend of mine about Trump. He said Trump is going to get us in a war. He had no proof but he echoed or parrokeeted democrat talking points. This same guy has been almost silent ever sense Biden has been in office. I can't say if I'm going to leave him alone about it or berate him the first chance I get when there's an opportunity to get into all this.

He's like most who won't admit they made a mistake in judgement.

I will end with a similar thought as him.

Biden is going to get us into a war, but my comments are not in jest nor is it funny.

What lands have we forcefullly annexed in your life? What labor camps do we run? Stop being silly.
What is silly is making enemies out of everyone in the world. And avoiding my questions on the logic path you all have established.

I mean in a span of minutes, I assume you agree with the statements about how corrupt Ukraine is, and then talk about how corrupt authoritarians get along, then talk about the resources and wealth in Ukraine, then say Russia is invading its neighbor for no reason. This is what's silly, if not outright schizophrenic.

I can’t honestly say I know or have developed a preferred response. I’m not for American troop involvement, but would never rule it out (it’s why you have a military). I do believe we should be offering Ukraine assistance in weapons. Hell we gave it away to the Islamists in Afghanistan, surely we could let some go to people wanting freedom. And yes. Europe should be strongly stepping up to the plate.
I agree with this, and the bold in particular. I also think we should impose sanctions and reinforce our NATO allies with weapons and even troops (which does seem to be the plan).

In other words, every major war we've fought since Korea has been unjustified. It's pretty much what we do.

* Vietnam: Interfered in a civil war between 3rd world countries to stop the spread of communism (we lost)
* 2nd Gulf War: Invaded a sovereign nation to "pre-emptively" remove its leader and eliminate its non-existent WMDs from being used against us (we won)
* Afghanistan: Eliminated the 9/11 perpetrators, then engaged in "nation building" of a 3rd world country filled with religious zealots (we lost)

50 years or so of fighting, and we lost 66% of the time.

At least if we go to war in Ukraine, we get back to our roots of kicking ass, whether it's a war of choice or not.

You are welcome to volunteer. I would encourage you to educate yourself on what combat veterans go through post war before you enthusiastically support it. It’s an absolute disgrace how they have treated for the most part by our politicians. The human brain is not equipped to take that kind of stress and fatigue at the age of most combat troops. Not to mention front lines have been made obsolete by today’s technology and most wars will nearly inevitable be guerilla wars where victory is difficult and resource draining. Let Russia invade Ukraine and learn the hard way just like we have, sometimes the best lessons in life are learned the way

You seem to be making many assumptions.

So there is a reason for Russia to invade Ukraine? Love to hear this reason from someone not named Ras.

You just told us all they are rich with natural resources. Is that not usually reason enough? I'm not pretending to be their leadership.

You haven't provided a reason for us to get involved at all, other than calling Russia "socialists" and "communists", which is borderline senile.

Looks like France is joining Germany are going to be pivoting east... They don't see anything to be gained by a potential conflict over Ukraine. Meanwhile, The Anglosphere (US and UK) are on the outside looking in.

France and Germany are capitulating to the Russians, let them reap what they sow. Maybe it will work out for them but I have my doubts?

No that is not a reason worthy of invading someone. Unless of course you admire thieves. So if that is your stance, ok.

I actually have. It is 1000 years ago and we don’t live in a bubble. If you’re not evil, letting evil spread will not work out for you.

Which also shows you France and Germany doesn't respect this adminstration. Weakness invites aggression or boldness.

Do you think Trump would just sit by in the face of this with France and Germany? They are playing both sides with the imbeciles in the White House.

Why wouldn't you? The United States sends K'ma'la Harris of all people to talk with Europe and NATO. K'ma'la has knows about as much about foreign policy as I do. She was an affirmative action hire.

I mean the EXACT same reasons for ignoring Putin could be made for ignoring German military aggression (at least prior to Pearl Harbor and the German declaration of war on the US).

And your solution to stopping what you have arbitrarily decided is "evil" is to pick fights that are going to end up isolating America from the countries that can actually help it stop the greatest evil facing the world right now? Seems brilliant.
