War in Ukraine

Why is there a Putin statue in NY? The Lenin one in Seattle I understand. Although in reality Lenin himself wouldn't have tolerated these woke leftists.

Looked this up and apparently it was a small statue anonymously placed. Don’t know if it was placed in support of Putin or with the intent to let people vandalize it. At least it doesn’t appear it was something sanctioned by any NYC council or other govt entity.

I don't see this happening at all.

But the offer is a good look for Putin...

Idk Hog. Kim is nuts and he would easily sell out his people to enrich himself further. If so, I wonder what the response would be from the rest of Europe….or, lack there of.

Sounds like he would trade a bunch of warm bodies for a bunch of grain and energy. He might not care if he gets them back.

I doubt the casualties are that high. That would be pretty near 50% of the lowest reported number of Russians. They would be falling apart if it was that bad.

Sup Louder. Yeah, that 75k number is what I read as the estimate of total casualties thus far from the Orcs (dead AND wounded) but unlike other modern conflicts the dead are said to be a MUCH higher ratio here (like 1:1) as opposed to Vietnam etc whicj were more like 1:3 wounded..

I suspect poor training and leadership, old and poorly designed hardware, and the incredible range and accuracy of western artillery all contribute to the huge increase in lethality.

Sorry if that number seemed misleading. I read this from US and UK defense/intelligence officers statements.

Anger From Ukraine's Backers After Damning Amnesty Report Spotlights 'Human Shields' | ZeroHedge

Whoopsie, I guess Amnesty International has become a Putin lover too now? Or maybe Ukraine is not quite as morally shiny as their media sycophants like to portray?

More to the point perhaps, how can Ukraine claim Russia war crimes when AI is documenting how they are intentionally using human shields (against their will) with residential populations to protect military targets, including schools and hospitals?

Wait, I hear Ras and a few others rushing to this post,,,,but I bet the rest of the posters on this thread will remain awfully quiet.

Direct link to the press release.
Ukraine: military endangering civilians by locating forces in residential areas - new research

Do you think this is related to Zelensky recently telling civilians to clear out of certain areas?

When Russia is pushing towards town X what should the Ukraine military do? Stay out and let the Russians have it or go defend it?

When your country has been invaded civilians in the way of the invaders have a choice. Pick up a rifle and fight or get the hell out. The military has to go where they need to go to stop the invading forces.

For you history buffs...

Is the situation with Russia starting to feel like Nazi Germany circa 1935-1939? A 'light' version (so far) but it seems similar.

Germany was beaten down following World War 1. An unhinged, charismatic leader with WW1 experience took control and inspired nationalism. He preached about how unfairly Germany was treated post-war and wanted to reclaim land he believed to be German. He slowly started invading neighboring countries and conquered them one-by-one. He committed atrocities to innocent people in the name of War -- at first under the radar and then in public view. America let him do this unabated until we were 'pulled' into a World War by Japan.

An unhinged Russian leader with Cold War-experience and nearly unlimited internal power and money is bitter about the breakup of the USSR and Russian post-Cold War concessions. He wants to reclaim some of the land they gave up. He's committing war-time atrocities barely under the radar. America is allowing him to do this unabated.

This situation isn't going away and I think we'll need to get *really* involved at some point. I hoped for an overthrow or financial coup among his billionaire friends. It ain't happenin'.

No, you correctly stated dead and wounded. I just think we would be seeing a lot bigger impact if there were that many losses.

I am still taking the 50% split method when it comes to numbers.

And you left out the part where Russia's partner in the East pulls us into war. Kinda creepy how there have been recent articles comparing a possible China missile attack (on the US in Asia) to Pearl Harbor.

No

The civilians (some of them seniors) should just pack up and go live in a field, obviously.

No, the Russians should pack up and leave Ukraine.

Let's stop acting like war isn't pure misery and hell for the people fighting it and the people caught up in it, Ukraine is fighting for it's survival as a nation and must put it's troops in front of where the Russians are trying to go. Sure the Ukrainian military should do everything it can reasonably do to prevent civilian casualties but **** happens in war.
