I could see NATO membership being a condition for Ukraine ceding territory if they ever do agree to give up Donbas/Crimea.Once this current fiasco is over I think it makes sense for them to join. But oh hell no to do this now and create a situation where Article 5 could come into play on a non NATO country invaded before their application. That’s not how “insurance” works.
Oh I think Russia will be highly diminished. But they won’t go away. And NATO will fight for its political existence and pivot to China.
I don’t see how Putin can survive this. The referendums will be universally rejected and he is going to be forced to respond to that rejection to back up his bluff. Which will result in further pain on the average Russian.I'm hoping someone inside Russia will grow pair and end the reign of that gangster Putin then actually move the country into the 21st century. It's a long shot since NATO and our government doesn't want that to happen, they need an enemy to justify their existence.
First sentence scares the crap out of meI don’t see how Putin can survive this. The referendums will be universally rejected and he is going to be forced to respond to that rejection to back up his bluff. Which will result in further pain on the average Russian.

Putin’s speech today was just as crazy, if not more, than the one when he justified the invasion in February. He has clearly lost his mind and I’m starting to doubt that he wouldn’t use nukes in this conflict.
Riiiiiiiiight...
