War in Ukraine

That is why they are there, to make sure there is distance between them and Nato to deploy their tactical nuclear weapons. Obviously, it was thought about for about 30 years which is why Congress was questioning all the military buildup by 1998.

Its not complex, but you are making it complex.

The problem is being solved, you don't like the solution.

Woops! Too late for that with Finland joining NATO due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Back fired on them.

He answered his own question. That "2 million strong army" consists of less than 200,000 active members, a sh!t ton of reservists, and all of their living veterans..

Bless their hearts they thought that they actually had 2 million combat ready troops..lol.

The US on the other hand, actually has over a million active troops.

Russia, Ukraine, and the USA have plenty of quantity, but none have quality when it comes to manpower. They all sent men to Afghanistan. None of those men came home to a victory parade.

Glad you made it thru. Hope you don’t have any significant property damage.

My office was flooded but my house made it through OK, just had to have some screens replaced on the pool cage.

LOTS of peoples homes were flooded, Ft Myers beach and Sanibel were demolished. Lots of people dead, the news isn't reporting it. They're claiming like 50 in Lee county, everyone here knows it's in the hundreds.

Good to hear you are well.

Holy cow that’s terrible on the unreported deaths. I was gonna crack a joke about making sure your boat was ok but think I’ll drop it after reading that.

My SIL is in South Venice. She got thru it ok but did have some flooding in her home. She rode it out and indicated they had no mandatory evacuation order.

Hard to understand why. I've talked to first responders who've spent time on Ft Myers Beach doing SAR and they're shocked at what they've seen. It's been a week and they're still recovering corpses. One of the FWC guys I talked to thinks it's because he doesn't think the public can handle it. There are lots of people straight up just missing.

Ft Myers Beach is kind of a low rent area (so to speak), my guess is that lots of people stayed because they didn't have the resources to bug out - and it was 'supposed' to hit well north of us, until it didn't.

Yikes. The news (national, if not local) certainly has an incentive to report any confirmed deaths. So if it's being covered up, it's at the county government level. Not sure why they would do it. I could see if it was an ongoing situation not wanting more panic, but here the damage is already done.

There's a growing sentiment that people weren't warned in time to evacuate or how rapid it would intensify. I disagree, we had plenty of time to hit the road - we (I) just didn't. But I don't live on a barrier island either.

They told us if we stayed during Irma we were all going to die due to storm surge and it never materialized so people were super skeptical of the 12'-18' warnings in the last 12 hours - that absolutely materialized.

I agree though, I think being transparent would get peoples attention about how dangerous this sh*t is. I've been through a few and shrugged them off, not anymore.

I'm not kidding when I say I was in 130mph winds for almost 4 hours. It was absolutely surreal.

A guy who used to be a bass player in a band I played in (Cliff) went to New Orleans 5 months before Katrina for construction work. He was never heard from again. No body was found....nothing. How many other cases were there out there like that then? How many are out there like that now in Florida? Glad you are ok!

Ian is already being listed as the most dangerous storm for fatalities since 1935 from what I’ve read. (Edit: for Florida not US overall of course) It does look like they’re not trying to slow roll the numbers missing but yeah I’m not seeing a lot of speculation about the unaccounted for. But after a week… 🤷‍♂️

Its about stopping the most direct line from Europe to the heart of Russia, Russia doesn't control the whole European land mass. Whether Finland is in NATO or not really doesn't change the fact that NATO could always have put troops there under agreement. The most direct path is straight through the Ukraine, otherwise it would take probably a year or more (probably multiple years) to ship everything up to Finland.

Technically the US is only 55 miles or so from Russia, but the point of entry is very remote... and less population to deploy tactical nuclear weapons. Hint, you're not going to see even the stupid American troops crossing the straits. Even the stupid American troops are smarter than that.

There just isn't many easy paths for large masses to easily and swiftly move into Russia as it stands from Western Europe.

I'm sure if it came down to it, Russia would deploy tactical nuclear on their own shores if they have to... but the further that warfare takes place, the better.

Why do you think JFK did his thing to Cuba? Its not really all that difficult to understand.

Wow. That’s insane. Glad you’re doing okay. My wife is dying for us to buy a place or move permanently to the coast. After this, I’m pretty sure she’s agreeing with me that it’s better just to visit a lot, walk away at the end with no obligation and not be there when this happens. Not sure I would want to tackle rebuilding more than once. Haven’t heard a peep up here in West Knox about the death toll. That is pretty shocking.
