War in Ukraine

Whether true or not I’ll bet just the insinuation puts Lukashenko’s head on a swivel 😂
Luk knows the score. He would be gone tomorrow if Putin wasnt there protecting him.

There is a big separation in the leadership of Belarus and the people. And that is a good chunk of the reason Belarus hasnt entered the conflict, even though they have let Russia move through their borders.

Never understood this picking and choosing what weapons the west will allow Ukraine to use. If your committed to helping a country against evil don't fight with one hand tied behind your back. If anything, allow same kind of firepower that Russia is using.

Its easy to see that they only want to give Ukraine enough help that it will not escalate into a direct Russia on NATO conflict... They severely under estimated the Russian firepower and are using weapons systems that are complex and high maintenance... and not very reliable.

Also, they are running out of NATO stockpiles...

Ukraine has sought long-range surface-to-surface missiles known as ATACMS from Washington. However, the White House has rebuffed the request out of concerns the munitions could be used to hit Russian territory.

Part of the cause of the dwindling arms supply is the massive demand for artillery. Currently, Ukrainian forces are firing thousands of rounds daily, but the US can only produce 15,000 rounds per month. Camille Grand, a defense expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, told NYT, “[a] day in Ukraine is a month or more in Afghanistan.”

Moving on Nikolaev. Bakhmut, Sivers'k close to falling, leaving only Kramatorsk as the last real defense line. Counteroffensives once again thwarted with heavy casualties. Yeah, HIMARS is a bust. As the guy that runs New Atlas acct. said, and made a good point, HIMARS isnt really any better than what Ukraine started the war with (Merch launcher?). Expecting them to be a game changer wasnt really fair to begin with, especially with so few of them (with atleast half already being destroyed).
@Rasputin_Vol

Here is the first post about Bakhmut falling. Back in August.

It hasnt been talked about because nothing has changed in more than 3 months. You guys have been predicting its fall pretty much the entire time, and have been wrong time and again.

Maybe things change there, maybe they dont. But based on history I wouldnt go planting any tricolors any time soon.

The mainstream media hasn't talked about Bakhmut this entire time. But now they are discussing it? That must mean it is about to fall pretty soon.
It’s literally been plastered all over news sources not controlled by your Russian buddies and details Wagner getting their asses handed to them over and over and over and …

The kiss ass comment was a bit harsh. The gov and civilian people work hand in hand for decades sometimes, especially on the procurement side, so it’s a natural progression. My main problem is when you see a retiree now in a suit working the same program or program areas. THAT is a huge conflict of interest and I thought it was actually illegal.
The kiss ass thing is legit though. At my level (and a step below) you have to start working political angles. Thats what I tell all the managers who work for me. That is my polite way of saying know when to shut the f##k up, know when to speak up, and know how to pick your battles. I've see folks choose hills to die on that were worthless from the start.

Who else do you think we are blaming? We've been screaming about our interventionist foreign policy for years.

I know you have, and I've agreed with you on some of it from time to time. However, you've been railing about anybody older, the military, and almost anybody that slightly disagrees with you. I doubt that you will find the military lobbying congress to go fight somewhere - perhaps defense contractors do want a broader market for their goods just like all people selling goods and services. I also don't think "intervention" is precisely generational; I do think there's a lot of envy and "I want mine" in the newer generations; so you are less willing to lend a helping hand when needed.

If you want to go to the failed diplomacy bandwagon again, stop and consider the ivy league cycle of idiocy that teaches "young diplomats" to go do precisely what their last generations of failures have done. Makes you think diplomacy is something innate in human beings and not something teachable - at least by the same tired rejects with the same tired philosophies.

Now apply this same logic to Russia.

Russias MIC is controlled by oligarchs aligned with Putin. They also wanted a war to justify increased spending. They have a long history of maintaining these frozen conflicts to maintain spending. And they clearly fear monger the US every chance they get to keep the public blind to their spending. Russia spends more of their GDP on their military than we do. Which is saying something. 4.1 vs 3.3, and 2.5 required by NATO.

I would be careful throwing rocks in your glass house.

The worst part is that all the stuff we buy from China.gov is funding China's military growth. And the stuff we can't seem to keep secure is their R&D on the cheap.

I'd bet you can't find true fiscal accountability in any bureaucracy, and the military has been turned into another huge federal bureaucracy. When you consider where and how military assets are used, it's probably a lot easier to understand how things can go missing or be destroyed without really accurate recordkeeping ... lives are more important than record books. However the bigger losses probably happen well away from the field.
