War in Ukraine

Ammo prices haven’t spiked and there isn’t a real shortage. Why is that, considering we are supplying Ukraine with tons and tons of ammo? I’d think our civilian 5.56 an 7.62 would be going through the roof right now with as much ammo as we’re replacing.
My guess is we're still burning through **** we had built up for Afghanistan but no longer need

Nah, that dog does’t hunt. Just last year you couldn’t find 5.56 or 7.62 as cheap as you can find it now and that was coming off of covid shutdowns.

Either we’re not replacing ammo sent to Ukraine and/or our troops aren’t training with live rounds to the level they should be.

Also when you consider just how popular those chambers are in the private market as compared to Gov contracts I’d guess any small arms supplies we do is a pimple on the ass of consumer consumption. And the gov only buys from the contracted sellers too. Not to mention every western and NATO country has mountains of those chambers. Just a guess but might be a question for GV

I remember in 2020 and 2021 the excuse for the shortage and high prices was the government buying up all the ammo. So since we’re supplying a war now one would think the government would be buying up all the ammunition again.

He's probably right Hog. Those military procurement contracts for expendables are executed years in advance so that production timelines always lead actual use by years. We're probably still buying stuff as if we were in Afghanistan.

Example, after Vietnam they cratered the military budget. By 1978 things were pretty grim as to equipment, particularly spares as we were using supplies but not replacing them. But you know what we were drowning in? Jet fuel. We had entered into long term contracts at prices set before the Arab oil embargo. We had to buy it pursuant to old contracts with well-below "time of use" market prices. We had so much fuel they would give us our airplanes on the weekends and let us go anywhere in CONUS we wanted.

I spent a lot of time in Key West.

I bought 1000 rounds of 5.56mm at Tractor supply not long ago. It was manufactured in Oman by OMPC. Gets pretty good reviews and I haven't had a problem with it. I am guessing that the U.S. military isn't purchasing ammo from them.

Meanwhile in Germany...

A German walks into a bar and orders a fancy beer.
The bartender tells him : "100 euros!"
The German is shocked - "100 euros? yesterday it was only 10 euros !"
"Well, today it is 100 euros." -
"But why 100, damn it?"
Bar tender : "I'll explain it,
-10 euros is the beer,
-10 to help Ukraine,
-20 assistance to European countries who have imposed sanctions and are not members of the EU.
-20 euros in aid to the UK, for successful implementation of sanctions against Russia.
-Then 30 euros are sent to the Balkan countries as aid to buy furnace coal/keep their corrupt politicians.
- and finally, 10 euros for a gas subsidy for the EU and fund to help maintain sanctions!"
The German silently with internal anger took out the money and gave the bartender 100 euros.
The bartender took them, entered in the cash register and gave him 10 euros back.
German in disbelief : "Wait, you said 100 euros, right ? I gave you 100, why are you giving me back 10 euros?"
Bar tender : ".....There is no beer."

How much? Prepandemic I was buying brass 556 delivered to my door for $300. Now steel cost that much or more.

Lol are you really trying to plagiarize a tweet by Donbass Devushka?

Or do you get terrible jokes from the same handler?Screenshot_20230304-100526.png

If we gave them one single bullet we would be drawing down on our munitions. How is this news or surprising to you? Good lord. Let alone news worthy to anyone with an IQ above a toaster.

This argument is silly and you know it. We have made a significant dent into our munitions stockpiles. It's a fact. Of course none of us have the numbers but judging from the way the SPR was being depleted the administration is inept with inventory management.

My argument doesn't mean we don't have a plan to deal with Russia's aggression. Clearly we're involved in a proxy war.
