Can what? Commit troops under the power of the UN? For the love of God why would we want to compel that, because you know who would be sending the most troops.
The UN has passed I believe two resolutions, condemnations of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last I checked. They had exactly the impact I expected them to.Well I prefer the James Baker approach of at least some international consensus or proclamation. Not sure I have heard anything from the Peace Nations.
Interesting comments from Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak. There has been speculation by some here in this thread that the defense of Bakhmut was and is exactly what Podolyak is describing.
"The Ukrainian defense of the city of Bakhmut has achieved its goals and has been a great strategic success for the Ukrainian army. Ukraine had two main goals in defending Bakmut: buying time to replenish its forces and inflicting heavy losses on Russian armies. The decision to make the defense of the key area a priority was a joint strategy devised by the country’s military branches with the approval of the Ukrainian president. As for the defense of Bakhmut, it achieved its goals by 1000%. The military implemented the plan to destroy the enemy's main combat-ready grouping on the one hand and enabled the training and training of tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops to prepare for a counterattack on the other.” Source CNN
Honestly this whole thing is a mess and we need to see some closure or hope of closure, but pride will be the fall of many
Seeing WW1 trench warfare tells me there should be a massive diplomatic solution initiative and I just dont see it.
It can end today. Just get that idiot Russian president to withdraw from all occupied Ukrainian territories and it’s over.Honestly this whole thing is a mess and we need to see some closure or hope of closure, but pride will be the fall of many

This looks like a great example on why we should avoid entering indefinite vaguely defined entangling alliances half way around the world. Thank both Bush 41 and Slick Willy for this situationGood luck hanging your nuts on something which you cannot predict and in the first place has no bearing other than some Bush New World Order.
IF and a Big If..we get outta this without some totally massive monetary rebuild expenditure, at the least, then I will tip my hat. But you know in your heart..that will not happen

If we had no intention of responding to their need in defense of their sovereignty then we should have never signed on to do so. Which would have been ok by me. But we did so…
When we give our word, or more importantly here signature, we need to stand by it or not give it at all. Three different administrations had the chance to put the firepower in place that could have averted this full blown war. There are various reasons why we didn’t I’d guess including corruption concerns, lack of resolve, etc… but I’d guess it’s going to cost us way more now than it would have in 2014 when the bill came due.And exact same thoughts. Doubling down on FP stupidity is stupid.
