War in Ukraine

American and British special forces are inside Ukraine, leaked documents claim: More than 60 elite troops from both countries are operating in warzone against Putin's forces

As many as 64 US and British special forces operators are currently deployed in Ukraine, an allegedly leaked American intelligence document has suggested.

A total of 14 US special forces are claimed to be operating on Ukrainian soil, with as many as 50 from Britain - the largest of the listed contingents.

Some of the classified documents, which were leaked online and have been widely circulated on social media, appear to have been doctored, according to Pentagon spokesman Chris Meagher.

Former head of the Royal Marines, Lt. Gen. Robert Magowan, confirmed in December that British commandos had already deployed twice to Ukraine in 2022 - first in January to evacuate the British Embassy in Kyiv, and again in April 'to provide protection to critical personnel'.

Britain has allegedly deployed 50 operators - the most of any Western nation - alongside 17 Latvian, 15 French, 14 American and a lone operator from the Netherlands.

this would not be the first time classified documents were leaked over a platform like Discord.

This has some pretty big ramifications. Putin could declare war on the US/NATO over this.

We and others (including the Russians) have had military advisors on the ground in a lot of places. The article really failed to point out purpose and chose to sensationalize without clarity about what the "special forces" are doing. They may be advising on tactics, logistics, use of NATO weaponry; they may be coordinating with their own countries as to what Ukrainian forces need, how effective NATO weapons and munitions are, and suggesting ways to better support Ukraine. Considering that Ukraine has been unique in many ways, almost any nation with a military should be studying first hand what's happening on the battlefield. There's been a lot of criticism about supplies turned over to Ukraine without positive control or accountability; hard to keep tabs on that without some boots on the ground. It's so easy for a chit stirring member of the press to lead people to jump to the conclusion that we and others have people on the ground in combat when they can be there for many other reasons.

They're there to train and advise. Special Forces (Army Green Berets) are force multipliers and trainers first and foremost. If it's SFOD then it's for direct action, if its Seals they're just there to screw up and get people killed. I don't know what Marine MARSOC does.

It's funny how little people understand the Army Special Forces - the concept and the operations. They just jump to the nonsense that the SEALs are supposedly all about and decide it's the Army version of that. That the Brits have people there on the ground also helps explain the periodic Brit summaries that show up here from time to time.

I’d always assumed since the US and UK were posting some very detailed briefs that they both had their own eyes on the ground and were getting first hand Intel and analysis. And that of course flows back to AFU leadership to make them more effective also

I agree. The Russians have already embarrassed themselves enough at this point. A couple dozen SAS guys and a few Green Beret and Delta guys shouldn’t be able to deter the mighty Russian Army. If the Russians want to cry foul we could remind them that we aren’t flying our guys in combat missions like they did in Korea and Vietnam.
Operation Eagle Claw - Wikipedia

Operation Eagle Claw, known as Operation Tabas (Persian: عملیات طبس) in Iran, was a failed operation by the United States Armed Forces ordered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to attempt the rescue of 52 embassy staff held captive at the Embassy of the United States, Tehran on 24 April 1980.

The operation, one of Delta Force's first, encountered many obstacles and failures and was subsequently aborted. Eight helicopters were sent to the first staging area called Desert One, but only five arrived in operational condition. One had encountered hydraulic problems, another was caught in a sand storm, and the third showed signs of a cracked rotor blade. During the operational planning, it was decided that the mission would be aborted if fewer than six helicopters remained operational upon arrival at the Desert One site, despite only four being absolutely necessary. In a move that is still discussed in military circles, the field commanders advised President Carter to abort the mission, which he did.

So we (or NATO) is actively involved in the war? Just because we may (or may not)m have "boots" on the ground, that doesn't mean we are not co-combatants.

Hey... Zelensky is this generation's Ngo Dinh Diem... and the Fall of Kyiv will be the next version of the Fall of Saigon and Kabul.

Get your excuses ready.

Thank you for that. I am aware of that operation. I’d say they’re pretty good though. I’d take CAG guys any day over a supposed Tier 1 group like Spetsnaz.
