I never thought of this but it makes sense. The Ruskies hypersonic rockets have a really funny vulnerability. I don't know why I didn't think about this from what a friend told me about flying the SR-71. It seems the thing goes so fast it can't change course easily so whatever trajectory it's on, it can't easily change. Which makes it easy for standard AA missiles to hit them. That's why you hear the Ukrainians keep claiming shoot downs.
The lack of maneuverability allows the AA to accurately adjust for the speed since it doesn't have to compensate for turns.
My friend in 71's use to jokingly say that if they started a 90 degree turn over Salt Lake City, they would roll out over Denver.
