War in Ukraine

Just that eastern Europeans especially (and a lot of other people) really hate Russia. You do know that without Russia there wouldn't have been a Soviet Union?
How many "Russians" were in the leadership of the USSR when it started? You do know that "Russia" is a multiethnic region, right?

Both sides are blaming each other for blowing the dam. I ask why would Ukraine blow it? That would impede their troop movement taking back land.

Lol. When you live in an alternate reality, you can make really idiotic statements like the one above. Havent commented lately, but I had to say thanks for a good laugh this morning. It was much needed.

I'm not sure who blew up the dam, but the immediate Twitter reaction is that it was unexpected.
Not sure why the Ukrainians would blow it. Seems like they were the only ones who would have had an offensive in the area to slow down/hinder. And definitely puts more Ukrainian lands at risk than Russian held. Could also be some good ole fashioned scorched earth, that the Russians discussed last year when they were losing Kherson.
Idk maybe it was an accident, like one side had charges prepped just in case, and they got blown accidentally.

There's negative consequences for both sides.

I'm reading that Russians had control of the dam, which makes them more suspect, though not conclusively so. Awaiting more concrete evidence.

Based on the obvious stupidity in this post you probably should have kept quiet Larry. There isn’t a single good reason that Ukraine would have blown that damn.

Yet we destroy dams to restore the environment.

Ah, back on the good ole the Soviet Union had nothing to do with Russia arguement.

You mean before or after the purges? Because before the purges it was very Russian. And really only became non Russian because Stalin killed the Russians to consolidate his power.

Lenin was Russian. Trotsky is from your New Russia so you will probably want to flip that to Ukraine to argue this point. Stalin was born in modern day Georgia, but only lived there for 10 years before moving to Moscow. Malenkov, Stalin's #2 was Russian. Zhandov, propaganda minsiter, was another "New Russian" who I am sure you will now forfeit as Ukrainian too. Kutnesov, and Voznesensky were Russian, other propaganda/industrial ministers. Yezhov the first leader of the NKVD was Russian. Kirov leader of the Politiburo Paper, where Stalin got his start, one of stalin's first purges, was Russian. Beria they guy who replaced Yezhov was Georgian too, but he only came to power after the purges when Stalin had removed most of the old.

I always appreciate these "Russia didnt do nuffin" moments from Ras.

Ras might also be helped to look into how Russia became this multi ethnic state. It wasnt through peace and diplomacy. Conquest, purges, brutal oppression hardly makes Soviet Union a center for "international brotherly love"

Yeah I definitely dont believe it was impossible to blow up from the outside. Maybe that's a loss in translation thing, as the type of damage done means it was from an internal explosion vs an external one.

And there have been plenty of anti-Russian sabotage going on all throughout Russia. So it wouldnt have to be Ukraine from the outside to be a third party.

So, blowing up hydroelectric dams and causing catastrophic flooding, is what you do when you're "winning" @Rasputin_Vol ?

I think we've already determined that Russia and the Putin regime are without morals. They don't care about laws or human life; this is just another bullet point on the long list of the examples of them committing war crimes.

it's more about the staging rather than reporting.
Hopefully you arent a fan of a certain Pulitizer Prize winning photo of some Marines raising a flag over Iwo Jima....

During war it's all propaganda. Our media has clearly picked a side. It's why I dont trust any of the numbers thrown out by either side.
