Assuming Russia would attack the ZNPP in this manner, why in the world would the Russians need to detonate two units when they are the world's leader in nuclear weapons? They could simply drop a nuke if they were going that route. No different than them simply turning off the taps on Nordstream instead of blowing them up.
Also, why would the Russians cause a nuclear disaster in the recently reclaimed territories, knowing full well that the fallout wouldn't just be localized in Ukraine but would likely affect most of it's own territories within a large radius?
Again, we have been over it but you still refuse to admit to any possibility that might indicate that Russia is not in 100% complete control of the situation.
1. Scorched earth, if they cant have it, no one can.
2. Denial of a potential avenue of attack by Ukraine. Which might be important to go along with the 25k Wagnerites they lost.
3. The threat alone may be an attempt to slow/divert an attack. An actual bluff.
4. False flag psy-op to get the home crowd back on your side after a very public falling out with your best troops.
Two possible alternatives not directly related to the battlefield.
5. It may not be a matter of choice, again this thing has no main power source. It may just be a matter of time until this fails anyway.
6. It may be used to either buy time, in order to stabilize it, or justification to back out of a war which has had some recent dramatics that there is no way to spin as a positive. You would crown him Nobel Peace Prize Winner for life, and the west would get to spend billions on "fixing" the problem.
