War in Ukraine

Every major country is too intertwined. What happens in asia and Europe spills over to America and visa versa.
It’s called being proactive rather than reactive. What stops Russia from continuing their invasions? They take Chechnya, Georgia, Crimea, Ukraine. Think it stops?
Warhawk rhetoric. Ukraine is capable of fighting for its own sovereignty.

You do see how that’s not feasible In Todays world right?

It was a nice thought when sailing ships and a big ocean separated us from European affairs. People forget ICBMs, subs, and bombers changed all that; the ocean isn't that big anymore. Isolationism is a dream; we could, however, not have involved ourselves in several fights that we fought over wounded pride ... and those mainly because we didn't do a decent job of security at home. It's one thing bombing Libya to make a point like Reagan; it's a different matter to go completely stupid and invade a country like Afghanistan or Iraq.

which of the wars we fought were a risk of hitting us with ICBMs, subs or bombers?

I'd prefer to not even do that. But that scenario is preferrable to our men and women in harm's way.

Let's hope it is as you say and not something which is transitory.

Sounds like the order is basically bookkeeping. There are often active duty positions that open for reserve members. My wife spent the last three years of her time in the Navy Reserve on active duty. A lot of active duty military are or have been reserve; the relationship between reserve and regular military is tortured. My dad retired from the AF with 21 years of service; he was a reserve officer on active duty from the time he was commissioned in 1943 or 44. This may be an enticement for reserve members to volunteer for an active duty stint; active duty time changes the way retirement pay is calculated for reserve members. Doesn't seem like a big deal especially since it's capped at 3000, and covers but limits IRR (non paid - non drilling, or drill without pay) reserves. Just my take from the outside looking in.

The invasion of Ukraine is by far the most significant event of his presidency so far. He's handled it pretty well IMO. (that should tweak some noses)

Well, somebody has handled it; not sure it's biden by any stretch of the imagination. Congress has done its part with funding and not blocking, so joe shouldn't be doing any victory laps.

I support giving Ukraine all of the weapons and support they need, short of nuclear or biological weapons, to force Russia from their internationally-recognized borders.

It's a pittance of our own defence budget.

I'm a staunch Ukraine supporter and Western weapons flowing to help them defend themselves.

However, that meme is shameful. Most of the Russian conscripts don't want to be there. There have been a mind-boggling amount of videos and intercepted calls from Russian conscripts and POW's highlighting their unwillingness to fight outside of preventing them getting shot in the back by their own side.

which of the wars we fought were a risk of hitting us with ICBMs, subs or bombers?

None. I've thought most of our involvements or whatever they should be called since Korea were mistakes. Even when the fighting went well, we screwed it up by lingering around.

What has spilled over to America?

The N. Koreans got a missile over to us yet?
The Vietnamese paddled across the Pacific since we had to leave?
9/11 was in direct response to our previous involvement in the Middle East.

There has been one case of a war in Asia spilling over to us, and that was because we sanctioned the country in question, Japan.

We chose to get involved in WW1.

India and Pakistans fighting hasn't spilled over to us.
How about those civil wars in Africa? There a threat of those spilling over to Main St USA?

The best way to predict the future is to understand history.

What would have happened had the United States not intervened World War II?

What would have happened had Germany invented the atom bomb before we did?

The alternative to fighting against Russia is appeasement. Neville Chamberlain tried this during World War II.. how did that work out? There is no appeasing a dictator hell bent on expansionism.

The world's economies are intertwined today moreso than ever. Isolationism would hurt us more than the benefits of intervention.

49 Democrats REBEL Against Biden by voting against plan to send controversial cluster bombs to Ukraine

Nearly 50 Democrats issued a rebuke of President Biden's plan to send cluster munitions to Ukraine by voting for an amendment by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to ban the practice.

The amendment, which was supported by 49 Democrats and 98 Republicans, ultimately failed to make its way into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), but proved opposition - and support - for the indiscriminate bombs transcends party lines.

The Democrats included Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, N.Y., Maxwell Frost, Fla., Cori Bush, Mo., Greg Casar, Texas, Pramila Jayapal, Wash., and Jamaal Bowman, N.Y.

Ukraine received the first shipment of cluster bombs on Thursday and promised only to use them to dislodge enemy soldiers. The bombs were part of an $800 million security package from the U.S.

The House passed the defense spending bill bill 219 to 210 to set up a showdown in the Senate over the amendments which included banning military recruitment from considering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Republicans included several amendments on social issues as part of their bid to get rid of 'woke' policies in the military.

An amendment from Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, to prohibit the Pentagon from helping to pay for travel for abortion services passed the House. So did one to ban that would ban military healthcare from paying for gender transition surgery.

An amendment to ban diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) considerations in military recruitment passed - but one to ban all DEI training in the military failed.

Lol, she couldn't even manage to get 50% of house Republicans to vote for it.

Presidents always take the credit or pass the blame. I believe he's done ok.
