If the US and NATO agree to not expand, there would be no problems. But they are making these moves to specifically agitate and endanger Russia. In his national best interest, he is going to do what he needs to do.

No different than the US doing what it needed to do after 9/11, when a bunch of Saudi nationals terrorized us and we ended up attacking Afghanistan and Iraq, while protecting the KSA.

You can’t justify Putin invading Ukraine in 2014 and you cannot justify him doing it again now. There isn’t enough water in the world you can carry or deflect to to try and paint those wrongs as justifiable by using whataboutism. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked though that is Putin’s goto move.

A sovereign nation can join whatever club they want, but NATO as it stands is nothing more than a collection of flashpoints with a couple of big boys backing them up. The whole "mutual aid" thing is a joke. I wait to see Turkey come rushing to the aid of Latvia should they get in a scrap. In fact the second largest member of NATO (Turkey) is likely the first one to switch sides.

Note the date this started. 2015. The year AFTER Putin invaded Crimea. To wit Ras will just say “so that’s irrelevant since we meddled Putin has every right to respond” while completely ignoring the despot asshat had already taken Crimea and our Intel guys were trying to stem further bleeding of Ukraine. Which of course he will also reply with “so why do we have to do it let somebody else do it.” He’s always got an excuse to let Putin off while condemning whatever we do. Pure hypocrisy and BS double standard.

You do realize the Russians have been there for 1,000 years. That there was Russia before the Soviet Union.

While I will agree with you that it's time to turn the page and that Russia isn't the boogie man any more, you have to realize that they brought this upon themselves. Well....their ancestors did. As soon as the minority commies rose up the Russian people should have rose up and massacred every last one of them without mercy and left their bodies to rot in the street. Should have killed all of the commies and their supporters and anyone who financed them. The world would have been a much better place had they had the stones to do that.

Russia is not a direct threat to the sovereignty of the US. But they are a bunch of expansionist criminals. While I don’t want to see us get involved in civil wars I hope we arm and train every insurgent group that is willing to fight the bastards when they violate their sovereignty and kill as many of the Russians as they can before they are conquered. That’s as good an ROI on our dollars any anything else these days.

And I've told you before why I precisely do that. because we hold ourselves up as the example to the rest of the world. I'm simply holding us to that standard. We can do far better than what we are doing right now. We have issues right here in America that are not being addressed. Let Europe and Russia resolve their issues while we stay home and fix our own house.

The tsar and his family were killed over 100 years ago. They lived through 70+ years of hell and then had to deal with the ramifications of the collapse in the 1990s and the inept leadership of Boris Yeltsin. They've been through enough and seen enough to know that communism is not the way. The Russian Orthodox church is back to being a major institution and Putin is trying to address the huge demographics issue that was caused by WWII and destructive communist policies that wiped away tens of millions of their people.
