War in Ukraine

Isn't NATO basically neutral militarily unless somebody threatens a member? I know I'm totally stunned by all the NATO forces pouring across the Ukrainian border to annex a country before the Russians can gobble it up.
How can you seriously say that when the United States leads the pack and is engaged in every minor conflict that pops up? The US isn't neutral, therefore, NATO isn't neutral.

Sometimes you are a little overzealous in your desire to paint both sides as equal - sometimes they are, sometimes they are close, sometimes they are not close at all...............continuum.
This is a case when the two aren't really the least bit comparable.
Nobody on the left blamed COVID on Trump. They may have questioned and criticized his response - but they didn't blame it on him.
Well that's just wrong. I even saw posters on here laying COVID deaths at Trump's feet. I think sometimes you get so caught up in your continuums that you ignore reality. You're a zealot for the left that enjoys denying you're a zealot for the left. And honestly, if that's the ideology you choose to support, that's fine, just stop letting your politics blind you to reality. You can have liberal beliefs and still see what's right in front of you, you just choose not to.

We should've left ages ago. NATO would've ended and we would be wasting time discussing it.

It wasn't going in that direction until the coup in 2014...

The US has played a hand in getting us to this point, but now the leadership here can hide their hands and draw a new timeline and a new narrative about how all of this began.

Also, the guy that botched the Afghanistan withdrawal is now going to be empowered and try to use this as a way to salvage midterms... Trump and GOP are Russia lovers and what not. That will pull some moderates.

We won't be able to replace Neville Chamberlain until 2024 which is a long scary way away but it is critical we replace the democrats in congress this fall. We have to watch the rhinos though.

He could replace Don Lemon for CNN who is an opinion host but claims he's a journalist.

Maybe too many think why work when the government will just redistribute the income from those who do work, so when a candidate offers more free stuff ...

Correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be dissing lower income folks without so much as a mention of the huge government subsidies to the wealthy and super wealthy. Some of the richest people in your town got rich on government contracts and pay little or no taxes. And the super rich pay lobbyists and tax lawyers to avoid taxes, leaving small business owners paying more than their share. Republicans represent the very rich and Democrats represent small business owners and people who work hard for a living, while caring for the less fortunate.

I agree that we, the United States, meddle too much in foreign politics. But you choose to ignore that Russia was meddling in the Ukraine as well. Russia is not the innocent you have chosen to portray them as, and honestly, it's always baffled me why you choose to paint them in that light. Putin is just as guilty of the conduct that you rail against our politicians for engaging in, but somehow you believe it okay for him, yet totally wrong for us. Why can't both sides be wrong, Ras? And in this case, Putin and Russia are more wrong because they have invaded a sovereign nation and are killing people. Personally, I understand why Putin doesn't want NATO on his doorstep. It's not that different than the U.S. not wanting Russia in Cuba. But it still doesn't make what he's doing okay, or justify it in any way.

I don't disagree that we have had a habit of getting involved in places we shouldn't. A few times it was with good intention perhaps, but you are right that it was not always our fight. However, that doesn't change what NATO stands for which is a mutual support organization aligned against aggressive countries like Russia. If being prepared is considered not neutral, then perhaps you have won the semantics battle; but far better to be prepared for defense than to be overrun because you had no will or readiness to fight.

You are like a little kid trying to justify Russia's current aggression by screaming HE HIT ME FIRST. Pathetic.
I haven't justified anything. I'm simply explaining how we got to this point. The West took a gamble on this by not wanting to fairly and reasonably settle the Ukraine situation.

How long does it take to install a bomb shelter? Asking for a friend

A bomb shelter in the event of all out nuclear war is useless, it would just delay your inevitable by a couple of weeks max. The water supplies and ground would be tainted by radiation and useless for probably 10-20 years at a minimum along with death of all animal life larger than a mouse.
