It is all about the Rads.Spending time at nuclear plants, one gets a yearly report on if one has received "too many x-rays". I was just a visitor a few times but @AM64 is our resident expert

Not the radiation monitoring part. Most people going in containment or other areas just follow directions about where, how long, and protective gear. All work is planned, including time limits, maps showing higher and lower radiation areas, and you keep tabs on yourself with dosimeters. Sometimes you may have to wear extremity badges because hands, for example, may be closer to a source than the rest of your body. I can tell you it is really hot in containment (unless the plant is completely shut down) and wearing protective gear just makes it worse). Contrary to what you might think for a degraded plant my exposure level at TMI just after the accident was very low - and we were working in a cable spreading room just down from the containment access. The guys who really get high exposure are usually the temporary maintenance workers who do stuff like steam generator repair during outages.

this will be Russian land soon. Managing it seems like quite an impossible task though.

Those tanks are going to do a lot more damage than that radiation will. Like the tsunami at Fukushima that killed 18,000 people versus the nuclear accident that killed nobody. Or the evacuation that followed that did kill people.

Folks need to be desensitized to radiation. Low levels of radiation are not dangerous. These headlines are concerning, but still likely fear porn.

If I were anywhere near a place like Chernobyl, I'd certainly wear something like an N-95 mask and goggles for anything stirred up. External contamination can be washed off, but inhaling contamination is never good. You and I (and most people who've had military or other CBR training) know something about contamination - and the difference between contamination (which can contain mini sources) and radiation from sources to which most people will never be exposed - unless you are talking medical procedures.

I'm the most cynical person on VN. I do my best to not buy in too much to any narrative. Hell, if you paid attention this weekend, I was buying the Western hype up until Sunday when the narrative wasn't matching the actions taken.

I think the problem is that I do not take popular stances on many occasions.

Fascism is one of those words that gets thrown around way too much. If someone is a conservative nationalist, they’re called a fascist. I’m a nationalist because I vote for people to represent the best interests of the country and its citizens. I don’t vote for the German chancellor or the leader of Zimbabwe.

I've always thought "fascist" was simply a term that leftist totalitarians invented so they could point accusing fingers at other people who do basically the same thing they do. What difference does the brand make if people have no liberties or rights - if the KGB or Gestapo came calling in the middle of the night what's the real difference to the guy hauled off - or the message given his neighbors about sticking to the party line?

What's funny is he's been wrong about all of this from the jump. He said it was hysterical to think Putin would invade. US media was lying. Biden and the alphabet soups were just blowing smoke. He has been wrong from the jump. Keeps doubling down. And act like he's the only one who has a clue what's going on. You would think he would pipe down after being wrong so much.

I admit I didn't actually think Putin would do it. Imagine the difference if the UN had acted in a timely manner and put peacekeepers on the Ukrainian border and established Ukraine as a no fly zone.

He has good guests, has some good analysis at times but a little too partisan for me. I use some of his interviews every now and then because you get good stuff and partisan stuff. I do think he's genuinely a good guy.

What are you basing this on??? What's happened recently?

Compared to the reactors produced by other countries Russian plants weren't that safe. Keep in mind I retired a long time ago, and I haven't kept up with developments. Generally speaking places like Russia and China have lower regard for human life, so they aren't as worried about safety; I wouldn't expect that to have changed a lot.
