War in Ukraine

Lord have mercy we haven't razed a city since WW2,
That is false. Baghdad for one.

that is just sheer lunacy again on your part but even that was largely due to poor technology at the time. Bomb sights were ineffective at best and terrible at worst so they bombed "areas" hoping to hit their target within that area.
We hit Hiroshima because of inaccurate bomb sights. Ok.
You are not sure if Putin is targeting civilians when entire apartment complexes are destroyed?

Maybe we sold him some of those bad bomb sights. I don’t know what Putin’s goals are and neither does anyone else. Anyone claiming to know is lying or guessing at best.

The reaches some of you take to justify invading Ukraine is amusing. "The US firebombed Dresden".
Please show where I justified Putin invading Ukraine or are you just making strawman arguments?

Just goes to the long line of bad FP decisions by Dem presidents......

Ricky Nixon (R) would be glad to be left out of the discussions of terrible FP decisions by Presidents, especially when it comes to those surrounding 'Nam.

Love to see A-10s working over that convoy. You know the joke is that they replaced the airspeed indicator in the A-10 with a clock. Seems like the biggest problem might be how to keep their tails from getting roasted while picking off more stuff up the line. Honestly the only drawback I see to the A-10 in contested airspace is just a need for air cover while they are doing their job.

My dad flew P-47s in WW2 and then mostly fighter/interceptors until he retired - before the A-10 came into play. He always said the AF wasn't doing what it should with respect to ground support, and when they did get it right, the AF wanted to get rid of the A-10.

That is an interesting office Putin is setting in. It seems very cramped, what walls we can see are bare, no carpet on the floor and a metal door. He may be in some type of bunker.
Can we taken what’s written on that paper, blow it up, and translate please?

I've never had the impression that any lives were important to Putin - whether Russian, Ukrainian, or anybody else. He's just a thug with power.
But he was always a cold but calculating thug. Something has came unglued in that brain of his. Maybe Sleepy Joe isnt the only World leader suffering from cognitive decline.

The problem with the A-10 is they don't hold enough ammunition to wipe out 10 miles worth of a convey.

Sanctions coming soon from Twitter.

Nevermind...

Russia Blocks Twitter; Putin Signs Law To Seize Assets If Foreigners 'Harm' Russians | ZeroHedge

Update (1451ET): Interfax is reporting that a Russian watchdog says Twitter is now blocked in Russia, adding to the western social media freeze that now includes Facebook and access to app stores.

Hopefully the Bidens and Soros get some of their s^^t taken.
Update (1437ET): Vladimir Putin signed several laws on Friday - including one which would seize the assets of foreigners if they harm Russians or otherwise infringe on Russian rights, according to Interfax.

George Washington told us to stay out of European affairs for that precise reason. Only trade and commerce, but not entangling alliances with any of them. European security needs to be handled by Europeans, not America.
When George Washington told us that, Europe couldn’t even put a soldier on our soil for six weeks. Now Putin could park several megatons on any city in America in 30 minutes
I believe we should strive to stay out of as many conflicts as we can and only donsonwhen there is a clear threat to our security (no more nationbuilding or being tje world‘s moral policeman). But we can’t just stay aloof like we distinguish the days of muskets and ships of the line.

If we didn't lose then what did we do...achieve our goals and leave South Vietnam? Our reason to be there was to prevent the spread of communism, was that accomplished? Doesn't matter about South Vietnamese govt., we were fighting and left when we realized we were not going to win and didn't have the politic stomach to do so. We were defeated. Were Russian's defeated in Afghanistan? Were we?

It is kind of like Europa Universalis 4, we were NOT the War Leader. The fate of the war was not dependent on us. South Vietnam was the leader and lost the war. You can possibly say we lost with them but we were not the main factor in the war.

The problem with this war is that we can't participate and do what our military does best. It's amazing how the threat of nukes changes tactics.

Yea the world has been worried for years that the Kim’s in North Korea would get nukes. Ignoring the fact that a mad man already had a complete arsenal of them.

You and I have different definitions of razed. Taking out utilities and government/military structures isnt razed.

I obviously have no geopolitical expertise but I don't think the idea is to kill as many as possible. My guess is Putin is now of the mindset of if I can't have it, you can't have it and he's looking to just level the country. If people are there, meh. If they aren't, meh.

Either way, if and when he decides to pull out, there will be nothing left for Ukrainians to comeback to. No puppet government for the West to prop up along with lines on the map that Putin will get to re-draw.

Anyway, that's my guess.
That's very possible.

One way to stay safe is not insert ourselves in regional beefs and conflicts. We have enough issues here with the lunatics here to keep us busy for a long time.

And you comment suggests that you have little faith in Europe being able to take care of themselves without us holding their hands. At what point should the Euros pull themselves up by their bootstraps? It is expensive propping the up 80 years after WWII.

OK, so you just pulled it our of no where. If you are basing this on what you are seeing or hearing on mainstream news media or social media, then you may not have learned anything since COVID. They are only here to spread propaganda and work you up in a frenzy. I'm not saying that there are no civilian casualties. I'm simply saying be careful about what these people are telling us.
I'm basing that on what I see. And the tactic they are using. Indiscriminate bombing of cities.
