War in Ukraine

Ok, so if that is all true, then where do we go from here?
I just erased what I was going to post because it was not likely to happen with the leadership we have.

I think they (US/UK/NATO) are going to double down just like they have with COVID even in the face of their narrative unraveling. I think it is too late to fix anything.

One thing seems increasingly true with each passing day: as pointed out in this video and elsewhere, it's got some huge logistical problems once you extend it beyond the reach of railroads. Apparently UKR destroyed the rails at the northern border, so it's slow going once they get more than 100 miles inland

That’s a very good video and it makes sense for some of the things we’ve seen so far .

So we allow him to hold the world hostage?
What if he said "remove the sanctions or I'll view it as an act of war"? Which he sort of did.
Do we let his threat force us to remove the sanctions because he might be so irrational as to mean it?

He is not holding the world hostage , we are all still using tax dollars to buy oil from him and supporting his military while we use the rest of the tax money to spend on trying to stop what we are sponsoring. The NATO countries that are doing this are ignorant , and it’s all a circle jerk . I believe I heard that soulless ginger Psaki say we were still importing nearly 10% from Russia .

Watching innocent civilians being slaughtered immediately involve the viewer.

That's like walking down the sidewalk, seeing a couple of guys beating an old lady, and doing nothing because it didn't involve you. Once you see it, you're involved.........like it or not.

Seeing it isn’t being involved. The actions you take based on what you see is involvement . Actions have consequences.

You can't negotiate from a position of weakness, and we are showing ourselves as to be a weak nation - a lot of that due to poor leadership. Russia has had nukes pointed at us for most of my lifetime - I'm 76. The funny thing is that my generation has been often criticized for the weakness and selfishness of the following generations. Yet we weren't the ones willing to roll over because the other guy is threatening us. I agree with Ras and others that we shouldn't have been dabbling in wars across the globe as a general rule, but there are times that you have to have a backbone. That generally comes down to Russia and China when they act as aggressors in the foreseeable future. No, it isn't up to us alone - that's why we are part of NATO and should be part of an Asian pact ... and supposedly the UN which is turning out to be pretty much worthless.
Seems Russia has all the leverage right now, considering how much of Europe’s energy they supply and the weakness in Washington. They basically have the West over a barrel.

I feel bad for the innocent people being harmed by this war but I don’t want us sending a dime over there…. It is just wasted money…. It is amazing how watching everyone believe everything the media tells them after watching them lie over and over again….. people believe what they want to believe.

I’m questioning if that really matters to Putin. His willingness to rattle the nuclear Sabre is not something one would/should normally do lightly, yet he has..bluntly. I’m at about 70% that he could launch if this campaign doesn’t go his way and his country is in economic shambles. He might just say eff it! JMO.

Yeah, you may be right. The worse things get economically in Russia combined with lack of progress in Ukraine makes Putin more unpredictable and likely to lash out.

That’s certainly what they thought coming in. They clearly miscalculated.

We don't need to discuss it further in this thread, but the lack of offering early, safe treatment options combined with the utter incompetence of the current admin getting monoclonal antibodies and antivirals distributed is almost certainly responsible for hundreds of thousands of American deaths.

So, I guess I kind of agree with you.
He was arguing that doctors shouldn’t have final say on any treatment in hospitals and that families and patients should be allowed to try any method they want ever no matter what doctors or hospital admin says. Even if it was self medication of narcotics. Then followed it up with that doctors, nurses and hospital administrators should be executed for not allowing any meds a patient wants to try

Russian Ruble getting pounded again today. Of note, in 1998 there were roughly 6 rubles to 1 dollar. Now it's around 140 rubles to 1 dollar.

The nest eggs of Russian families and oligarchs simply evaporate another 26% in one day.

Looks like US will ban Russian oil imports, while EU moving in that direction.

If it continues, at some point, their economy simply implodes. I'm thinking if/when Ruble falls between 150 to 200, Putin is ousted / falls out a window / "goes to the train station".

A oil embargo will do nothing unless every country is 100% on board. China would probably buy every drop that Russia could pull out of the ground. We need to be leveraging any power we have with OPEC countries as well as increasing domestic production to drive the price of oil down which would have the same result.

An intelligent administration would have already pulled out all the stops on domestic oil and gas. But not this one.
