War in Ukraine

They are getting lapped by our media. They are comfortably ahead of the pack.
I have to believe that the repressed population in those countries KNOWS that their info is limited and controlled by the government. The biggest problem here is that a huge percentage of Americans believe whatever MSM says without question. When a contradiction arises, they then believe crap like "the science has changed," rather than questioning the integrity of the information.

Not even 20 years ago. Maybe in the 1950s... maybe. But certainly not in the era of mega-corporate media companies. All tv, radio, and print have been consolidated into a handful of companies. And they nearly all (I wouldn't necessarily exclude FOXNEWS) get their marching orders from the govt.
Fox News might be the worst at beating the war drums.

Trump was in cahoots with Russia, and they said he represented an increased risk that WW3 would begin.....and he did.

This represents the disconnect between the East and West.

Trump was despised and not respected in the West where polite norms and pleasantries have reigned during our relative peace and prosperity.

Trump was feared and begrudgingly respected in the East where power, resolve, and a bit of unpredictability are hallmarks of autocratic rule.

Putin was quite hopeful that Trump would continue to drive a wedge between the US/UK and Germany/France in NATO. I would imagine Putin gave a non-zero possibility of Trump actually pulling out of NATO (especially in a second term). That would be a massive win for Putin. That possibility, combined with his unpredictability and willingness to go after other superpowers (look at the trade war with China and strikes on Russian-controlled area of Syria, destroying the Wagner Group in Syria, assassination of General Soleimani), gave Putin pause to pursue more action on Ukraine.

Putin looked at the West's inaction after his invasion of Georgia and Crimea, the disjoined nature of NATO, and Biden's embarrassing withdraw from Afghanistan and saw weakness. He miscalculated that the past actions were indicative of future actions. This, in combination with believing his own BS about Ukrainians wanting to be a part of Russia (although I wonder how much of his own intel community inadvertently contributed to his false perception), set him up for this strategic failure.

The West being perceived as weak and divided represents the greatest risk of WWIII. You have to get out of your American bubble. The world outside of the West doesn't run on pleasantries, social media hashtags, or strongly worded diplomatic statements.

Clearly Biden, Clinton and Obama must be the ones to bear all of the responsibility. Oh, also Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon - they are probably the most culpable.
No doubt the Republicans will look to lay this at the feet of Biden and the Democrats.
No doubt the Democrats will look to lay this at the feet of Trump and the Republicans.

Should be a good episode.

That was true 20 years ago. No way that is true today.
Opinions have been accepted as facts and facts are now spun to fit the audience. Twitter and instant news platforms killed the nightly news being able to get it right.

A senior Defense official says the US has corroborated reports that the Russians are trying to recruit Syrians to fight in Ukraine. "They are on a recruiting mission". Its noteworthy, this official says, that Putin needs foreign fighters to fight his war in Ukraine.

There was a path for peace that was neglected by Ukraine and the west/US encouraged them to not abide by the Minsk II agreements because they convinced the Ukrainian leadership that the US and NATO would support them. So we put a battery in their backs and now that we have provoked Russia into this mess, NATO is nowhere to be found. Left Ukraine holding the bag.

That didn't help Ukraine or NATO... or really Russia for that matter. There was an easy path to peace that was prevented from happening due to western hubris and arrogance... and financial angles, also.
Yes, there is always a “path for peace” if “doing everything the aggressor demands” as an option.

Calls grow to boycott Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and PepsiCo as major firms stay in Russia

Calls have been mounting for a boycott of McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo as the companies have thus far not joined the ranks of other major global firms in pulling their operations out of Russia.

Three Ukrainian supermarket chains announced they are removing Coca-Cola products from their store shelves and the hashtags #BoycottCocaCola, #BoycottPepsi and #BoycottMcDonalds were trending on Twitter over the weekend as customers vowed to shun their products so long as they continue to do business with Russia.
