War in Ukraine

The Black Sea is Russia’s only naval port tha doesn’t freeze during the winter. They’ve been leasing it from the Ukrainians at least until they annexed Crimea in response to the Ukraine coup in 2014. They fear that if Ukraine joins NATO, they will turn it into a NATO port and lose access to the warm water port as well as access to the Mediterranean.
Okay this makes more sense. But Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey are NATO members and have access. I also read that Turkey is under pressure not to allow Russian ships access to the Mediterranean.

It's their only access to a warm water port.

They are also following a path of where there are more ethnic Russians and where they expect to face the least resistance. If you look at the electoral map from 2010 when Yunokovick was elected, the more Russian areas leaned heavily in his favor.

What's an "ethic Russian"? Most Russians I have ever seen and for sure the ones I have met are just white.

Lol you are doing some interesting mental gymnastics to avoid saying Putin is wrong and killing civilians
I never said that this operation wasn't killing civilians. I've clearly stated that it is the intent to minimize as many casualties as possible, unlike a NATO exercise.

And at this point, after finding out about the bio labs and the understanding that this has really been a series of attacks on Donbas for 8 years by the Ukrainian regime, we will see when all of the dust settles if the truth going on over there still makes Putin the "bad guy"/"Hitler" you all want to make him out to be. Just like this same corrupt, lying azz media did with COVID over the last few years, the same will happen in this situation.

In the meantime, get your laughs in while you can...

That is the term thrown around. Apparently, it is a thing. Either way, whether it is ethnic Russian or Russian speakers or people that lean more towards Russia... you can pick apart the terminology all you want, the fact is that whatever you call them, they live more in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine.

Russian is an ethnic group. Just like Ukrainian, Moldovan, Polish, Irish, Scottish etc.

Ask Russians and Ukrainians if they see themselves as the same and see what response you get. Their skin color just happens to be white.

I think Transnistria has quite a large number of ethnic Russians. Which makes sense as to why Russia supports their independence.

Well, let's assume this is true for a moment. So the assumption is that because they are Syrian, that they are Muslim? Or even more sinister, just because they are allegedly Syrian, that they are "dangerous Muslims"?

Do you or that tweet idiot even understand the demographics of Syria?

Still doesn't give Putin the justification to invade anymore than ethic Mexicans living in TX, NM or AZ would give Mexico the justification to invade.

Just because they look "all look the same to you" (and me too) because they are white, THEY definitely see the differences. They have different languages and slightly different characteristics and culture. And that is just the Slavs. Then there are all the "Stans", which is a whole nother kettle of fish.

When I lived in Indonesia for a bit and (poorly) spoke the language, I could begin to distinguish between Batak, Javanese or Balinese. They would look all the same to most outsiders (and me today) but there were some slight differences. People forget that all the countries that exist today were mostly made of warring groups who were subjugated under a single leadership in some time past.

You might think these are nationalities or cultures not ethnicities but because for many years different pockets of people lived in proximity to each other and intermarried, there are real ethnic elements. Indonesia was island to island (and even multiple groups on large islands while the Slavs were also different areas but probably had more intermixing.

So the Ukrainian regime should have just continued to attack the Donbas? After 8 years of fighting?

They are ethnicities. Just because someone has white skin doesn't mean they are "white". We've gone over this before in here.
Seeing a lot of these neocons and neoliberals showing their racial biases. Russian hatred is already at an all time high, now they are calling Syrians "dangerous Muslims"...

The Guanche people of the Canary Islands were their own unique ethnic group before Spain invaded and wiped out most of the group. From my understanding many Guanche people were also taller than most other white skinned people at the time.

Berbers and Basque are also uniquely different ethnic groups.

Many Syrians also have white skin as well. Assad is also Alawite. Which I believe Alawites consist of about 10 percent of the Syrian population. There are many Druze and Christians in Syria as well.

We just have a lot of ignorant people in our society and they are quick to slap on stereotypes of other people. I've faced it in the past being a military veteran myself.
