War in Ukraine

Russian stocks sink 8%, ruble plunges to 14-month low as conflict fears intensify

  • Russian assets have been mired in volatility in recent weeks after a build-up of around 100,000 Russian troops along the Ukrainian border sparked fears from Western powers that Moscow was planning an invasion, an allegation the Kremlin has persistently denied.
  • Anders Aslund, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and chairman of the International Advisory Council at the Center for Social and Economic Research, tweeted Friday that Russian assets could fall further.

The stand-off between Russia and the West over Ukraine sent Russian assets tumbling on Monday.

As of Monday afternoon in Europe, the MOEX Russia Index had dropped around 5.9% and is now down more than 15% year-to-date. The Russian RTS Index was down 8.1% on the day and around 19% lower so far in 2022.

The Russian ruble was down 2.5% against the dollar at 79.17, its lowest since late 2020.

I know in Tennessee nobody will mention this, but covid is absolutely decimating russia rn. It exploded on them like tuberculosis, and yes I'm as tired of hearing about it as you are.

What if this is a coordinated duplicitous ploy with the CCO to divert attention away form the Far East. Obviously Putin moving troops from Vladivostok area leaves him exposed to China. Wouldn't it be great of The CCP backstabbed him.

Ahh just found this article....

As Putin Lines Ukraine Border with Russian Troops, Is There a China Factor?
The various sanctions the West could place on Russia over this would likely help China. They'd just get whatever products are sanctioned from Chinese companies.

Lol. Dude is untouchable in your eyes.

This isn’t the enemy of my enemy is my friend. You love that tyrant.
He does the inverse of what he hates US media for, which is hold the West to a much higher standard than he does Putin. He doesn't like it when you hold the West and Putin to the same standard...that isn't good enough. He's basically admitted to this at various points in the thread.

And it evidently is quite a low bar he holds Putin to. He loves Putin because he gets major schadenfreude at him robbing Russia blind before Western bureaucrats could.

I'm not saying he's untouchable. I'm just saying that there are these "legends" out here that are spread that are meant to demonize the guy, when we know that our intelligence agencies engage in propaganda in order to justify any military action.

I have no idea what to believe or disbelieve about the guy. All I do know is that we have intelligence agencies here at home that have a track record of being dishonest. I err on the side of not believing hardly anything these guys say.

The US can sanction Putin PERSONALLY. His personal finances. we just don't want him to go because it would leave an Iraq like power vacuum over the second largest arsenal. We would like to see free and open elections, but Putin has been enforcing his rule over real Russians to the point it's difficult to get rid of him. He even eliminated term limits. He's a dictator, but one we can control. Ukraine: US could sanction Putin personally if Russia invades, Biden says

To be clear, it isn't just US media, it is the entire corrupt system.

He may or may not be the richest, either way he is absurdly wealthy. Which in itself is not bad, considering it was garnered politically makes it filthy though.

He is untouchable to you. Anyone makes the least bit critical remark of him and you are all over it.

You go far beyond not believing what our intelligence agencies say about Putin.

I don't think you attempt to do any analysis of Putin on your own. It's just as simple as "This group of people I don't trust hates this guy, so I'll stick up for him."
