War in Ukraine

If, big if, these were actually military related explosions be ready for Russia/Belarus be ready to false flag the crap out of them to justify a new invasion front. It's the exact same play they used for this with some Russian pipelines being "blown up" by Ukraine in Donbas before this most recent special operation.

Absolutely zero reason for Ukraine to escalate and bring in another front. None what so ever.

Ok. Then people should go with reasoning. And I feel the reasoning of “would you send yer kid” is lazy and thoughtless.

I’m sure you(you as in anyone) have better reasoning. Use that.
Would you send your kid is the best rationale. One of the reasons we spent 2 decades on worthless endeavors in the Middle East is because the majority of our citizens didn’t have any skin in the game. The burden of the last 2 wars was shouldered by either the super patriotic or people that didn’t have any options to escape poverty. They did multiple tours over and over, while parents that didn’t have any skin in the game sat on the sidelines.

But that's the situation being played out a ground war with Russia.

Russia is 25x the size (almost literally) afghanistan with a similar difference in population. How much of Russia would we have to take to get russia to capitulate?

And this assumes China doesnt get involved.

And it also assumes the war stays conventional and Putin/Russia dont go nuclear scorched earth on us.

I don’t envision us going down that road.

Putin is fully aware that maintaining an empire is expensive and can get your military into countless conflicts... he learned this by watching the US. Again, if putting the band back together as you say was his primary goal, he missed out on getting a huge fish when Kazakhstan was on it's knees and vulnerable 2 months ago.

As far as us getting ourselves after Putin played the nuke card, I consider that to be a natural human reaction... and the proper reaction. The people on our side need to be made fully aware of the consequences of their actions. These lunatics think they can push around a nuclear peer the same way we push around these 3rd World countries.

I think some of here differ in our views because of age. I can't speak for others, but after living through the Cold War, I'm not impressed with Putin's saber rattling. Could be that thing as you get older the treat of death is less a deterrent, but I don't think so. Khrushchev and his totalitarian regime to me were more a cause of concern than Putin. Putin's "peers" have tasted freedom and wealth, and it seems they would be inclined to hold on to that; they know if Putin fires a nuke at us, it all goes away. Putin is preying on our weakness. I'm not saying we should go to war over Ukraine; but curling up into a little ball and whimpering because Putin threw out the "n" word isn't an option.

Again.

Are there valid wars? Yes
Are there valid wars we would win via our current military recruitment methods? Yes

So what does someone’s opinion on what they would have their kid do, enter into this?

I would also add those 2 decades in the ME means people were over there via their own desire, after the first 5 years or so.

I guess I don’t ever envision a ground war with anyone that would require us increasing numbers via draft. Our technology I would think puts us above that fray. I can’t imagine a ground war with another major player on foreign grounds.
If a near peer adversary has the capability, and I bet they do, to knock out GPS satellites; much of that technological capability goes out the window. So anybody willing to haphazardly kick off WWIII needs to at least consider there may be a draft instead of just sending the pawns that volunteered like we always do.

Same with Vietnam. It wasn't the politicians or the people making money off the war sending their sons.
