War in Ukraine

So we don't defend because that's not our mission and we can't do anything because we don't want to piss off the invader, but F'it lets go to war with Russia.

Just tell us all what you want the US to do Luther? Should we march into Ukraine and flatten the Russians, or should we stand back and condemn the Russians while we watch the Ukrainian people get slaughtered?
I think a no fly zone would be a great step.

Just over the weekend. These sanctions are pushing the two largest countries by population together with the largest country by geographic area.

China-India border row: signs of thaw in talks, analyst says

Hate to say I told you all so, especially on the Rupee/Ruble payments. We could be seeing the hole in the dike of the petrodollar wall.

We're probably witnessing the beginning of the end for the petro dollar. Which pretty much means the end of the dollar.

Regulated digital currency . Whatever China is doing , it will be some version of that .

Never happen unless the Russian people revolt and trow him out.

Wow, you catch on. This is Russia's fight, and we have to give it to them. Give them an opportunity to succeed. They are being driven by a very charismatic, almost budda like leader, who was already poisoned by Putin once. That is why he is disfigured, but even from behind jail he is a powerful leader of the resistance.

If true, it's enough to make me believe my faith in Indian intelligence is significantly misplaced.
Mutually Assured Destruction

All 3 are nuclear states.
And Russia and India can be a counter to China. If China makes a move on Russia, would India take advantage while they are distracted and make moves in the Himalayan disputed areas?

I think you have some checks and balances in place that might help make this a functioning union.

In a total flip the script moment - consider this is what the American people will be saying to Biden by the end of his term (if our economy lasts that long).

God this man is making me long to have Jimmy Carter back.

We've had a new update from a US senior defence official about the latest on how the Russian invasion is going.

According to the official, the Russian advances continue to be generally stalled - and there are indications that Russia is deliberating the degree to which it needs to bring in replacement troops from outside Ukraine to join the fight.

The official added:

 • The Russians have launched more than 980 missiles
 • Russia's military has devoted 75% of its total battalion tactical groups to this invasion
 • In the south of Ukraine, Russian warships are shelling areas around Odesa and there is increased naval activity in the northern Black Sea. Mariupol is isolated and the long-range fires are having a deadly effect
 • In the north, Russian advances are generally stalled near Kyiv
The US is talking to allies who have air defence systems that Ukrainians know how to operate - and we can expect air defence systems to be discussed during US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin's trip to Slovakia and Bulgaria.
Lol @ Russia being bad at everything

Luther you need to cool your jets because you as so far ****ing out of bounds right now you can't find your way back.

The vast majority of people join the military as a means to receive job training and or pay for college with the understanding they must be willing to fight to defend the country. They don't join so pompous asses with no skin in the game can send them off to war in a foreign country to make themselves feel better. Until your ready to put your kids asses on the line do not volunteer other peoples kids.
My jets are fine just as they are. There is a price to pay for that job training and free college. Defending our country is a pretty vague concept. Were we defending our country in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan? I doubt there is anyone more anti-war in the PF than me. That's precisely why allowing some crazed "leader" to perpetrate a war on a relatively defenseless country killing thousands of innocent people in the process should never be tolerated. I'm for stopping war not fighting war.
The no skin in the game comment is absurd by the way.
And those kids volunteered themselves. We have an all volunteer defense.
