War in Ukraine

No, we clearly took a side against Assad with training and material. What indication is there we used mercs to aid FSA?
Just basing that on how the US usually preps for these sorts of revolutions. A combination of prior history and some independent reporting. Obviously, the CIA isn't going to announce to the world that they have military assets in an area.

Are you really asking what's the difference between U.S. coalition forces not hitting pro-Assad forces until 2017-18? The difference of him surviving, most likely in addition to obliquely giving him massive help against IS. Aside from congressional hawks chirping, there doesn't appear to have been any intent to remove Assad.

LOL... OK. I'm done with you. I see you aren't even serious right now.

And like I've said before, that will happen when Poland gives back Danzig.

We can play this game all day.
To be clear, you and the Putin sympathizers are the only ones playing the game. The rest of think it’s harmful, illogical, 19th century behavior.

Germany doesn’t ask for those lands back anymore. You know why? Because they’re a grown up country looking for peace and prosperity and not run by a backwards autocrat with an inferiority complex.

As I recall the Israeli's took some of that land as a protective measure because their enemies used them as staging bases ... and in the case of the Golan Heights a perfect place to look down on and shell Israel. Makes perfect sense to capture and hold territory if your enemy is using it for terrorist operations. Tit for tat in a way.
Oh, I agree. It was a measure Israel took as a part of their long term security.

We're finally getting somewhere.

Is this where you pretend that their surrounding Arab neighbors didn’t attack them on three separate occasions and lose all three forfeiting and claims to those lands?
Napoleon, the Poles, and germany twice in the last century attacked Russia from the European plain that Ukraine rests in. Add in the potential risk of NATO nukes and conventional armaments being staged in the same region, and you begin to see the legitimate security concerns that Russia has.

I think in the last few moments, we've had a breakthrough in the discussions. @landscapingvol and @AM64 are acknowledging that countries have to act in order to prevent any security risks on their borders based on past history and @KB5252 has stated that if you attack a neighbor and that neighbor wins, then they have the privilege to claw back some territory.

My work here is done. We are all in agreement and I was finally able to get you all to see the world through Russia's perspective. Great job guys.

They have reason, but they also have might. This is why I say Ukraine should accept a reasonable ceasefire. Then you guys lose your minds because you think a magic fairy (no not @Septic with his homo-erotic fantasies) is going to come in and save Ukraine from the inevitable ass kicking they are getting from a mightier power.

Welcome to reality, some of you should live in it. Russia tried diplomacy but Zelensky couldn't find a phone book thick enough to get his head above the table and felt embarrassed so they never showed up. Russia said to hell with and now, what do we have, some attempts at diplomacy from Ukraine.

One small problem with your whackadoodle theories:

Russia is losing. Bigly.

It was always considered a part of Russia before 1991. Plus they had their Black Sea Fleet there and a majority Russian population.

That didn't really answer the question. Things are, until they are not.

Do you believe a country is entitled to something just because of what used to be?

Uh no. Ukraine wasn't threatening to invade Russia. You really had to dig for that justification - like back to 1812 or so, and the latest was Nazi Germany - they haven't been in business for a while - like since 1945 or so. Poland always seems to be the poor relation caught in the middle, but who knows maybe they smacked somebody around at one time or another.
