Well that's just not true. I live in Knoxville and my family is strewn across the state, and the majority of non-essential businesses were shut down.

In October of ‘20 everything in East Tennessee was wide open that we went to. In SC we had some things where stores kept a head count of how many they let in for a short while but that was about it.

I disagree…I’ve traveled a bit.. as far as freedom of expression goes, I agree FB and Twitter tried to quash it, but people will still find ways to start shiznit lol

I don't know if traveling somewhere can give you a well-informed opinion on exactly how free a place is. I've been to Colombia for a cumulative 8 or 9 months. Aside from a few fundamental differences in local laws to avoid going to jail, I don't know a whole lot about their civic freedoms.

It's as simple as collecting data and comparing numbers. If you put n as little effort as googling "countries ranked by freedom,' you'll consistently see a common denominator from a half dozen studies: we're compositely in the 10-20 range, with the Scandinavian countries consistently rounding out the top.

Some obvious things that lift the veil of America being the freest country on earth:

-prohibitive, obscenity, and drug laws
-law enforcement
-prison population (this is the big one)
-religious influence in politics
-government surveillance
-lack of internet anonymity

I don’t buy for a second that he just dropped dead. But their government will never allow for a fair autopsy. So we will never know exactly what happened.
Yeah. It’s hard to believe a government would try to cover something up like that. 🙄. If you look about 8 threads lower on the politics board you can read the JFK assassination thread.

Those are cool experiences you’ve had, I also stayed a summer in Argentina with my Aunt so I got a pretty good idea.. she has lived in Bogata, And Cartahena sp? as well as Sri Lanka, Jakarta, Argentina, and the UAE.. and speaks three languages, so I admit much of my perspective is second person, as far as actually living there goes.. I was mostly resentful of European pay for potties situations and where I could go and not go ie things that actually applied to me 😂

I also found European countries to be much more impressive just physically in terms of where you could walk, go, being supervised..and of course the pay bathrooms lol I didn’t like it in that I always felt watched, same with Mexico (we were) and Canada…

Eh, maybe top 10 in economic freedom, but we're sub top 20 in personal freedom.

Either way, we're not the most free in terms of anything, really.

Go on and explain please. I know you have done extensive international travel so I’m interested in who has more personal freedom than us and what constitutes it.

For a couple weeks at most unless you were in the 4 big cities. As a state we never shut down but Lee left it up to the cities and counties.

I listed knocks against our version of freedom in the next post.

You have yet to point out how we suck. Yeah we have our problems but the rankings you used are complete BS.

Sorry we're not the freest country in the world, hog. Don't let it chap your hide.

Like I said, plenty of studies and peer-reviewed articles are readily available via your keyboard.

It's stupid for people to say "respect their country, their practices, norms, and rules."

No MF'ers. If you want to host a world wide event then you accept the world as it comes to you in its millions of ways. Otherwise dont ask to host
Technically they didn't ask to be the host. They paid to be the host.

I’ve traveled abroad a lot, too Muslim countries as well. In the military we got briefings of the do and dont’s before departing days in advance. Our brief to Qatar was like, when you go out in public, don’t stand out, no caps, no sneakers, no jeans nor shorts, nothing offensive to their culture. Stay together in small groups etc.

Grant stood out or did something that offended someone.

Yeah show the metrics used
They're all different but seem to generally adhere to scores based on basic human rights, freedom of passage, decline/ascent of democracy, authoritarian reach, law enforcement, criminal justice, technological freedom, and wealth disparity.

While we're certainly still in the upper 10 percent of the world, which is awesome, we're not the most free nation on Earth like we constantly propagate. Kind of impossible to be at our size/scope.

I'm not sure why that's such a hard pill for some to swallow.
