both.

you can't win games turning over the ball that much.

That being said though, if they're going to call 12 penalties on one team, and like 20 penalties overall, you havet to catch something like this in the last 3 minutes of the game

point is, either way they lost...and probably missed the best chance/playoff groupings to make it the super bowl for the next few years, especially with a tough schedule next season and brady coming back to the pats

agree that this was likely their best chance for a few years. the blown call probably broke the titans back in the end, but they have only themselves to blame for being in position to allow the blown call to beat them. realistically they should been ahead by at least 14 points at that time.

i'm glad you posted that pic. cbs never showed a replay, and ever since i have been wondering whether my eyes had decieved me, or if he really had stepped out. nice of CBS to cover for the officials by not showing a replay though.

espn uses their "roll it around" camera to show he didnt step out the back.

But yeah, they put themselves in that position and b/c of it they lost a game they should have won. Now they have all offseason to think about it and figure out what they'll do to try to fix it, but they're going to have to work around chris johnson being a marked man and having a year's worth of game film to prepare by.....they need offensive playmakers in the same way this year's vols team did too

How in the world do they do that? From the picture that was posted in this thread, which seems to be a screen capture from TV, it is pretty clear he's out of the endzone.

it was on sportscenter....im still not sure how that thing works but from their video he didnt step out...

honestly wouldnt have helped though, had they gotten a safety, it would have pushed them further down the field and w/o johnson they wouldnt have been able to drive all the way down it

three turnovers and a missed field goal. Those refs shouldn't be allowed to ref another game this year though. That was pathetic.

I hate to blame officiating for anything... as they're still invariably a catalyst. With that said, we did no favors to ourselves with enormous numbers of mistakes.

Also... the unnecessary roughness no-call from when CJ hurt his ankle was pretty infuriating. I counted 2 1/2 seconds that his knee was on the ground while they were still mauling him with a Ref about 5 feet away.

That might fall into the other discussion: how no ref wants to be "that ref"....the one who makes that call in a postseason game that makes/costs one team or another

I think the Personal foul issue falls there.

If you put yourself in a position where a bad call by the ref costs you the game, you simply didn't play well enough to win. Titans gave the game away period. You can't play undisciplined football against a team with that strong of a defense. You have to take advantage of every chance to score and you MUST protect the football. The Titans did neither. They lost because they played bad football. Granted, if Johnson had been able to play it may have been different. But it's all over with now.

I agree that all aspects cost the Titans. That said, we don't know that the officials were using the play clock that we could see. Do we know that the BJ was not timing the play clock himself? If this is the case, they could have very well been a second or more difference in the two.

Was it not at a sports bar?

Reminds me of an episode of Home Improvement where Tim is listening to a Lions game at a 5-star restaurant with his wife. Hilarity ensued.

Hilarity still ensues, to think that anyone could care about the Lions that much.

from the article ( ESPN - Referee explains non-calls that helped Ravens - AFC South ) I figured more than anything it was a "my bad" statement by the refs

Yeah, I read that afterwards as well. What he is saying is true. There will nearly always be a delay. The last thing the BJ would want is to be watching the play clock, whether the one on the field or the one on his wrist, it hit zero...him immediately throw the flag and blow his whistle and the ball has just been snapped.

I am not here to totally take up for the officials. Being that I do what they do, just at a different level. I personally feel as if an official cannot "blow" a game with one call made or not made. That is so much that goes on during the game that dictates the outcome of the game.

as someone previously posted, if you are in the situation that you need to blame one call on an official, there is something you didn't do right throughout the rest of the game.

Do officials miss calls? Yes
Do coaches make bad decisions? Yes
Do players make mistakes? Yes

It is a combination of everything that causes a team to win or lose a game,

Officials are the only ones expected to be perfect from the beginning and then get better from there.

Sorry...I will get off my soapbox for now :)
