Was it the blown no call that cost the titans

This crew had to be graded well overall in order to be in the situation of getting a NFL playoff game.

A lot of you people just don't get it. According to many, it is the refs fault and always will be.

I have said numerous times that officials make mistakes and miss calls. I can guarantee you that no one feels worse than the official that misses a crucial call. Even when you make a good call on a play that was questionable....you will second guess yourself. Lots of plays could go either way. Of course the team you make the call against is not going to be happy.

I am not going to argue anymore with specific posts in the thread...you have your point of view and that is not going to change period!

Anyone that thinks these guys deserve to be fired...that point of view is just wrong. Should they be reprimanded? Possibly. I think they should have to talk to a higher up over the NFL officials. They should explain why what happened, happened. As a fan watching it on TV it is very easy to place the blame. Not calling holding? That is part of ANY football game at ANY level.

It is easy to look back and say if this or that happened, then this would have happened. If the officials had made this call or not missed this call...this would have happened.

I do not believe the officiating crew on the field decided they wanted the Ravens to win the game. These guys should care less who wins. It is a 7 man crew...would be nearly impossible for them to decide who they want to win and then have that happen. If a single official wanted to change the outcome, they would be even less likely. You would then have one guy that would have to make call after call in a game. He would look like a complete idiot throwing the flags that would to be thrown in order for one guy to do something. If the crew wanted to do something, the number of penalties would be so lop sided to one team, that it should be obvious. Any football official I have been around could care less who won the game they are officiating. Most are there to do the best job they can possibly do. I would almost guarantee these guys were as excited about getting a 2nd round playoff game as the players and coaches were. The last thing they would intentiontally do is put a bigger black eye on NFL officials. There is enough that goes on without anything being done intentionally.

I will respond to quotes from this particular post in this thread. As far as trying to argue with people about their posts of what shoulda, coulda, woulda, happened I will not get anyone else riled up.

Feel free to ask about anything I have typed or bash this particular post.

Thanks,

You asked why the play was the most important - therefore I told you and made a disclaimer - its was all HYPOTHETICAL and that's why it was the biggest play of the game.

There have only been three games over the past 5-6 years I've ever blamed the refs for basically changing the whole outcome of the game single handedly causing one team to lose. UT vs. UF in football in 2004 (this time in our favor), '06-'07 UT basketball vs. Ohio State, and this past game. It's not like we all go around blaming the refs for every loss.

I'm not looking for a firing - I'm not looking for a fine. I'm looking for the refs to come out and apologize, own up, and say they screwed the plays up (not some human delay excuse crap - it was on zero for well over 2 seconds) and they changed the outcome of the game by doing so and they should apologize to the Titans organization - nothing more.

You really lose a lot of credibility posting in here just because of your user name - fair or not.

Bruno - I am not pointing you out. For your posts that I have responded to, I have quoted you and bolded what I was talking about if not the entire post.

Why do I lose credibility due to my username? Not like my name is "cheatingref" or "homerref", or anything crazy like that.

I am giving the view from the other side on this one.

You lose credibility because you obviously are a ref yourself - I'm guessing you ref some high school games based on your posting in the high school football forum. Of course you're going to take their side and try to find every way to defend them because you've probably gone through the same things.

I'm not saying that's fair. But it's a lot harder to be objective on an issue such as officiating when you are a ref.

I believe I am much more objective on looking at this issue than many that respond placing the blame of the game on the officials.

I try and give input based on the side of the officials.

I just think it is completely unfair for people to jump on something an official does without looking at other things involved in the game.

I have not placed the blame of the Titans losing on any one thing. Many factors led to the losing the game.

I'm not disagreeing. But the fumbles, interception, and stupid penalties are things they can control or prevent. They have NO control and can't change the fact the ref was freakin' blind and saw the play clock sit on zero for two seconds.

The worst argument in sports when trying to defend a ref is - well if they had played better then it shouldn't of mattered. That's a horrible cop out. The game plays out how it plays out. But you don't expect idiots to be running the game who can stare at the play clock at 00 for two whole seconds in the most crucial part of a playoff game in the biggest stage of football.

The fact is - The Titans DID what they did and could do. They played the game. Did they make mistakes? Yes. Does them making mistakes mean the refs shouldn't be held accountable for idiotic mistakes like these? Heck no. There aren't three teams playing - and unfortunately there were for that moment of the game.

The refs are there to make sure the game is played right. Not to affect the out come or control the game - which is exactly what happened at that moment. There is NOTHING in sports that says its OK for the refs to screw up or its ACCEPTABLE for stupid mistakes if the team they SCREW over had plenty of opportunities and squandered them. That's probably the worst argument in the history of sports. I don't care at all what happened previously in the game - it's completely irrelevant to the call.

Well, It is obvious to me that we are going to come to no conclusion on this. Every time I think we are close you follow up with a response like this.

Obviously you have a grudge against officials. As you can see from the words you used above that are now in bold.

Show me a link where it says anything about the "blind" ref staring at the clock sitting on 0. You keep throwing assumptions and hypothetical situations into your argument.

We are not going to agree on this topic.

How about the fact I have DVR and I sat there and WATCHED the official look at the clock when it was at zero?

I have no grudge against 'officials'. I have a grudge against the moron who stared at the clock and didn't do anything.

The words you bolded are just me telling how blatantly obvious the call was and how it should have NEVER been missed - not to mention the fact you're the only one defending them like this on here and you're biased to begin with.. its all frustrating - you also decided to ignore several of my point early and try to point out other things that had nothing to do with what I was trying to state.

It was a horrible call... I've seen some BAD calls over the years - but not many that are that blatantly obvious and by the book.

Bruno -

The point I have tried to get across is that the Titans loss CANNOT be blamed on this one no call.

Agree or disagree?

Why do you put quotes around officials? Just curious

I do that a lot. Was just saying I have no problem with officials - just that one moron who looked at the play clock while it was on zero.. then proceeded to watch the ball get snapped for the next 1.5-2 seconds and let it go on.

Disagree. It can.

There are about 3 plays and the refs no call that can be changed and only have that play changed and the Titans would have won. You change any 1 of those calls and its a win. The difference is Tennessee can't control the refs stupidity on that one play.

Well, I typed out a long response just like I had been doing, then decided it just wasn't worth it.....

We are going to have to agree to disagree here.
