Way Too Early to Tell: Oklahoma vs. Tennessee

Aw heck and shucks ya'll... why do we even play the games at all? Everybody knows this team or that one is heavily favored on any given weekend, so why even go through the exercise and expense of showing up? Why expose young men to injury putting them on a field in a total lost cause, which is totally immoral if you believe that to be the case. Heck Auburn should have stayed home during the 2013 season of the Iron Bowl, should have taken a knee on that last kickoff. Some of the posters here either must have never really competed in a significant athletic endeavor or perhaps forgotten what competition is all about IMHO if they did. Just shaking my head at some of the attitudes.

Cause its on our schedule

I will bet my money on Oklahoma, a team that beat Bama, no matter how much you guys want to downplay it, over a team that couldn't beat Vandy at home to make a bowl game.

We aren't there yet

By that logic South Carolina couldn't beat the team that couldn't beat Vandy so Vandy beats South Carolina?

Why show up? Save the $s, save the wear and tear on bodies until we come up to a point on the schedule some of ya'll think we can win. Heck just send a forfeit of 1-0 by certified mail to OU and go drink beer that weekend and pat ourselves on the back we beat the spread.

There are a lot of posters pointing to 2015 as the year UT gets in contention for the SEC E. Why play the 2014 if 5-7 or 6-6 is the goal?

It would take winning the turnover battle by 4+ to have a chance. But its always possible the other team comes out with butter fingers. Hard to beat any team - even one less talented than you - if you are giving them the ball back each series.

Let's pray for the great equalizer that Saturday...a 4 hour non-stop downpour.

I think you place too much emphasis on the rivalry angle. And how would you explain their close wins against WVU and TCU? Those two teams won fewer games than Tennessee last season.

How I account for those close wins is that THEY WERE WINS. Are you saying that because WVU ALMOST beat Oklahoma that we have a chance to beat them?

Certainly, if Oklahoma were the invincible team some are making them out to be, then they would have had an easy day against those two teams.

Oklahoma is certainly not invincible. But they are more than capable of beating the likes of Tennessee on their own field.

I'm still saying the odds are against us but are not insurmountable.
I'd say it would be one of the biggest upsets of college football this year if we beat Oklahoma (a team picked by many to be one of the four playoff teams) on their field.

Sadly, it would become the 3:30 pm Verne and Gary show.

Hopefully those two will be in Dallas for the A&M/Arkansas match up.

Oklahoma is certainly more than capable of beating Tennessee. We probably will lose, but I'm not quite ready to write it off as a loss yet.

Just saw today where Oklahoma is ranked #1 in Sporting News preseason poll. Call me whatever but I would have rather us bought this game out and paid for a win against an FCS.

Ok, Mr. Whatever.

In my not so humble opinion, that is the very worst thing you can do. It tells current players you don't believe in them. If I had my way, Tennessee would never play another FCS school again. Beating them proves jack nothing. And losing to them is almost like a death sentence to recruiting and fan support.

And these buy-outs are for losers like Derek Dooley. That moron lost me when they announced the North Carolina buy-out, and he called Buffalo, "up-and-coming."

I have never attended a game at Neyland Stadium against a FCS team, and never will. Not even if you give me a luxury box with the hottest woman alive.

Well, then again....... MAYBE! But for nothing less.

But hey, if we start 2-0 and then upset the #1 Okla....are we #1?? Lol...talk about a miracle turnaround!!

No, we aren't. There would be doubts among the pollsters until the 3rd week in Oct. But it would be one helluva start.

Spoken like a real Tennessee Volunteer. Tennessee colors don't run, except straight into action.

I blame video gaming for this kinda of stuff.
Win or lose it'll be a good experience for the youngsters, IF coaching handles it right, and will make them a better team. I believe in Butch.

Oklahoma is a bi polar team if I ever saw one. One week they look like a team that should be playing for the National Championship and the next they barely beat some unranked team.

It's the first game of the year and they will be overlooking us. They will see a team from the SEC that hasn't had a winning season in a long time and won't pay us any attention at all. Hurd rushes for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. Malone and North both catch TD's and we beat them in Norman, 31 to 30.

My 2 cents

Guys I found it! The reason we are guaranteed a Victory over Oklahoma this year! Here's why
South Carolina beat UCF
UCF beat Baylor in a bowl
Baylor beat Oklahoma 12-41 last year!!!
Vols beat South Carolina
So we are obviously 4 times better than OU!
Place ur bets now!

Your pennies are wood. Stoops has too much vendetta against the SEC to overlook Tennessee. [Hey, I made a rhyming sentence!]
He will seek to run up the score to validate his Bama win wasn't a fluke and to tarnish the SEC's image as much a possible.

Hopefully, the Butch has his team sky high, frothing at the mouth, and refusing to die even if they're down 65-0 at the end of the first quarter. So much so that OU doesn't dare to put in 2-3 string playrs for fear we will surge. But make no mistake, Stoops' Sooners aren't going to overlook the Vols. They utterly plan on squeezing the orange, mixing it with milk and feeding it to that horse that pulls the Sooner Schooner.

What I hope to see is Butch having the Vols in Bama hate mode. When they look across the field and see a "red team" visualize it as Bama who we owe a reciprocal beating and this is the chance to do it. I want them boys growling, snarling, grunting, while howling on every play, "Roll Back the Tide!" After that, I want Butch during his onfield interview to say he has to go because the Vols don't like victory shopping in Stoops' Walmart Stadium.
