We are already behind in the portal-

Until someone portals their way to a championship, it isn't proven as a viable strategy to become elite. About the closest I've seen is when a HC gets another job and takes the team with him.
Sanders came pretty close this year to being in using the portal to revamp his team two years in a row. In fairness, he also made staff changes too

Did you watch OSU? That’s their whole team. Cherry pick anyone they want and pay 22 mil for this year’s roster alone. I’m not sure outside of a few players that all of their starters weren’t transfers.

But is can be.
No it can’t. We could sign the best 10 players in the portal every year and still be less talented than the best teams in the country. There’s no elite players in the portal right now. Was there earlier this month? Idk I wasn’t paying attention so someone tell me. Who did yall want? Jackson Arnold? Dane Key?

The fact that you're so sure of yourself while saying you don't pay attention and can only name headline portal names is all I need to know. Maybe the TE or lineman that Ohio State has picked up in the last 24-hours. Names you don't know but they are the answer for them.

Internet search engines are too easy to use for anyone to populate an idea and not fact check it before sharing.

According to an SI article published Reb 2024, tOSU lost 14 players to xfer and gained 6 last year.

There are several that improved. But no one has portaled their way to eliteness yet.

Yeah the portal can fill in the holes but that wont help if the rest of the framework isnt there. AND the more portal people you have, the less cohesive culture you have and that does have a real effect on esprit de corps and the ability to dig out when needed and put forth the best product on the field. If there are a few portal stars, then fine but if there are too many, the locker room has a merc attitude and I dont think that can get you a championship. But then - lets see how OSU turns out this year :p

I've never played football. Been a fan forever. My understanding is football is the ultimate team sport. Players have to know each other well enough to trust each other and make the same read simultaneously. I'm sure that diminishes for skill players to an extent. But cycling in new studs isn't an automatic improvement if they don't perform as a team / unit.

Yep. And Lagway will probably be the best QB in the SEC. Our days of beating UF are probably over.
Bro they were literally about to fire Billy 6 weeks ago. Lagway looks nice I will admit but he is still throwing picks all over the field and I still have no faith in Napier's ability to get his team ready in the offseason. Lose one game against Ohio State and you think we are perpetually done again, its wild af

Exactly. Im no foozeballer myself but I do understand building and inspiring a team. Every great team goes through the Tuckman cycle of forming, norming, storming, performing. You HAVE to have each of those or there is no cohesion as a team. When they play as individuals, there is a lot less production.

Thats also why QB is worth so much more and you need to grow it not buy it. The QB is almost always the O leader and so has to be organic, whereas a skill player may be able to come in a plug into the team culture, especially if well led and strong.

It is also why it is so critical to have a senior leader at QB. This was Nico's first year. He will likely have 2 more and the locker room culture will almost assuredly improve as he gains strength and experience.

Please expound on the Tuckman cycle when you can. Tia.

ETA: I had some time so I looked it up. Very interesting. Glad you shared.

do you have any personal experience with Tuckman's theory?

Doesn’t Oregon, Texas, Georgia, and OSU all have portal QBs? I think several other CFP teams had portal QBs.
Didn’t Dabo swear off portal players but I think he has changed his mind.
The portal may not be the most important piece but you better be in the game (portal game).

Yall just want portal players to have portal players. It doesn’t make any sense. We needed a guard so we got a guard and about to get another. We need a S but there’s not any good ones. We need a DT but there’s not any good one. Taking guys just to take guys is a good way to DECREASE the talent level on our roster.
