Young is'nt going anywhere, unless we sign Bigelow or Wasonga then Young will be the fastest player on the team the day he steps foot on campus.

...I'm sorry, but I highly doubt that

Doubt it. ESPN has him listed as running a 4.63 40 in camp this summer. On the vids I've seen he looks fast, but not blazing.

Vincent Dallas is definitely faster.

Young ran a 4.32 40 at TNVarsitys combine, he ran a 10.7 100m in Tennessee's High School Track Finals last year, & he ran a 4.01 shuttle.

And in my non-professional opinion Devrin seems to have excellent vision on his runs. He seems to find non-existent holes on nearly every play and doesn't slow down when he changes direction. I think he could be special.

The 4.3 40 is a little unbelievable..not sure on TNVarsitys way of clocking 40s, but cmon..the 10.7 is more believable, and I bet we have somebody faster on the team right now..prob a few..he's not here anymore, but Hardesty ran a 10.3 in highschool, and he wasn't the fastest on the team.

4.32 is Chris Johnson speed. No way that time is accurate. If LV says Young is faster than Dallas, I guess it could be true, but it doesn't look that way from their clips.

I would be hard pressed to drop Young for two reasons. 1) His speed makes him mega-valuable on ST from Day 1 and 2) We have never had a huge amount of in-state talent, I think it goes a long way for the future to start 'building the fence' around the state
Not bashing Young, but "building a fence" means keeping kids in state that have out of state options. How exactly does signing a kid that nobody else thinks is worthy of a scholly offer "go a long way for the future to start building a fence"? Dude may end up being great for us, but getting his signature is no great conquest.

I'm no young homer, but I wonder what clips you watched that made you think vd is faster than young.

ok - I'm wrong. Being unfair to Young because I wasn't thrilled with him as a recruit. He is really fast, and better than I'm giving him credit for.

Understand what your saying about Young (and I hope/think he will work out well); I just want to see us doing a better job year in- year out keeping what few players we have in-state. Now I'm also realistic enough to know we're a geographically challenged state and that depending on where you live you are closer to Oxford, Starksville, Tuscaloosa, and even Fayetteville than to Knoxville.

If the coaches are skilled at evaluating talent then I really don't care who else is recruiting Young.

We will know for sure how good CDD & staff are at evaluating talent in 2-3 years.

Until then I trust they know what they are doing. Dooley was with Saban longer than any other assistant (7 years) and I am OK to take a wait & see approach.

Hubbs & Dooley said on the radio that we can only sign 26 players in this class before we have to start greyshirting recruits & sending them to JUCO. Which means we now have only 7 spots left.

& before anyone asks that is including backcounting, we can only backcount 1 to last years class.

I hope the rest are four-star commits. I'll sit until signing day before adding any more three-star guys. However, I do want Zach Sharp, kicker from Maryville TN, so one of our current commits has to go unless we can get him to walk on the first year. He's too good a kicker to pass up.

That's my :twocents:

We are set at kicker I believe, Palardy and Darr.

True. But he's worth a scholly and redshirt him for a year. Did you read the article about him coming to our kicking camp and hitting every single field goal? He won the overall competition with a 55-yarder, even made more ridiculous kicks with Dooley taunting him. He's a must-have Tennessee boy. In this league, there's nothing wrong with depth at kicker.

Against Florida in Knoxville a few years back... "Wilhoit from the fifty, for the win..."

I rest my case. GO VOLS!!

When did I say that this staff couldn't evaluate talent? When did I say they didn't know what they were doing? All I said was that getting a commitment from a kid that was praying for an offer from UT is not some great accomplishment. I happen to think that Dooley and Co. Are doing just fine on the recruiting trail but you or I could have landed D Young just as quick.
