We Can Only Sign 26....

We just don't have a scholly for a kicker this year. There are more important needs.

Maybe he can be enticed to walk-on for a year. But then again, when Lincoln is gone next year... what if Palardy got hurt? Dang! We should have offered that Sharp guy.

We'll see.

When did I say that this staff couldn't evaluate talent? When did I say they didn't know what they were doing? All I said was that getting a commitment from a kid that was praying for an offer from UT is not some great accomplishment. I happen to think that Dooley and Co. Are doing just fine on the recruiting trail but you or I could have landed D Young just as quick.

Sorry - I didn't mean to insult or offend. Just stating my opinion.

It's all speculation at this point, but Dooley & Co would look pretty ridiculous if Young went somewhere else and did what R Cobb is doing at KY.

If he is good enough to offer, I don't have a problem with getting him committed early.

After NSD last year we had 2 spots left for 4 people. John Brown, Marques Dixon, Eddrick Loften, & Marteze Jackson. Jackson was ruled eligible in August which took 1 spot away, leaving 1 more spot. We did not use that spot & now we are using it to back count Loften once he gets here in January.

Did that make sense? Lol It's kinda hard to explain.

I thought Gooch took the other spot.

Oversigning (obviously) is a really, really good plan. Be nice if one of those extra were Mickey Johnson, since we've all heard his chances of making it are not great. So if Juda drops and we get Lofton, we have 9 more spots to get to 28.

3 DTs (one greyshirt or JuCo)
1 DE
2 OL (including Clear)
1 WR
1 LB
1 DB or best available player regardless of position

This sound about right?

The 4.3 40 is a little unbelievable..not sure on TNVarsitys way of clocking 40s, but cmon..the 10.7 is more believable, and I bet we have somebody faster on the team right now..prob a few..he's not here anymore, but Hardesty ran a 10.3 in highschool, and he wasn't the fastest on the team.

You think Dooley will let them know they are expected to greyshirt?

If so, Tennessee is doing it a lot different than LSU

I don't really know, but I can't imagine Dooley would let it go down the way Miles did.

I do know Saban tells players when they have a greyshirt scholly (Michael Strauss) so I assume Dooley would do the same.

No worries, I don't get offended by message board commentary. Again, young may or may not turn into a player but getting his signature was nothing special....it was well known that he would give his pledge as soon as he got an offer.

So, if we can backcount 1 player, then why not sign 29? Maybe the staff doesn't want to sign and place 3 players?

If we can get better players, why not decommit some of the lessor 3* we already have? It's not like we would be the only school to ever do that.

As a coach I wouldn't do this. If you get into this practice it wouldn't be good for the program. This leads to trust and loyalty issues from future recruits. Maybe that's why Coach D tries/wants to be as certain as possible with who he offers.
GO VOLS!

I think we will def take 3 DT's, 1 DE 2 OL (w clear) and 1 LB.

Then I think the last 2 spots will be for the best available players at WR, RB, or DB that we can land.

For instance if we can't land Arnett then I doubt we pick up another WR.

Excuse my ignorance but what is "greyshirting"?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

It's asking a recruit to enroll in the following January instead of in the summer or fall like the rest of the recruits. Then he's counted against next year's (2012) limit.

When a recruit signs and doesn’t qualify or leaves because he is unhappy, what happens with his scholarship? Can we offer it to someone the same year or do we have to wait until the next year’s class?

The scholly can be offered to someone else if the recruit doesn't qualify. This past year (2010) Dooley oversigned the number of recruits allowed, knowing some of them wouldn't make it in. (John Brown, Dave Clark, Marques Dixon, Eddrick Loften.) IIRC, if Loften is declared eligible by re-taking his entrance exam, he will enroll in January & back-count against 2010. Someone please correct me if any of this is incorrect.

If a recruit leaves because he is unhappy (right away?!), I think that Dooley would have to release him from his LOI. IDK if we can then sign someone else.

I think the Nutt rule limits us to 28, doesn't it? Although if LSU got 29 last year, I have no idea how they did that.

I see from the beginning of the thread that we have 7 to give, but when I read through the individual threads, I see offer after offer. If everybody said yes, that would be many more than the 7 spots. So what is the deal? Difference in offers and committable offers?
