We Have 25 Commits

? With the in state kids. The TN Lotto goes to kids for scholarships as long as they keep a certain grade point average. My brother in law went to high school in TN and didn't pay much at all for college. So a kid could commit but not be a athletic scholarship but a academic scholarship.

Interesting point about "un-committable" offers too. If you offer a kid and he commits, he can sign and you are stuck. You couldn't drop him or over recruit him later on. If he gets hurt, you're stuck with him too,no matter what. May put an end to that whole scenario. It will @ least change it.

No one has any idea how many or who we are gonna take

I expect a mass exodus of players after the season is over, it's the only way we can possibly take this many.

It doesn't matter how many leave the program - we can't take more than 25 this cycle.

I think there is still the NCAA rule they used last year about players who don't take official visits and just enroll or some such don't count toward the official 25.

Nope. They didn't do this. They backcounted 7 players. I had a post last year about it. Can only take 25 for this class.

GReyshirts count for next year if they end up doing that.

The number is 28 that we can sign. We can sign 28 this year and can probably blue-shirt a certain prospect (not hard to guess who) and sign and place a couple guys if they don't qualify. So we may end up with 30 or 31, but 29 at most will be on scholarship come next fall.

This is so incredibly incorrect. No offense but you are wrong.

I disagree. Yes keeping good relations with in state HS is important, however with the way Butch is recruiting other states, it's not that big of a deal. Tennessee just does not produce top notch talent every year like NC, Georgia and Florida.

If burning a couple of in state bridges means we get the players we need to win more, then so be it.

I wasn't just referring to TN, although football here is getting better. Butch recruits powerhouse pipelines all over the country. Certain programs/areas pump out D1 talent every year and for longevity Butch needs to keep those open. In the short run you're correct that it doesn't matter, which may be what he's thinking right now.

24 is still our number. Swafford counts toward this class. You can take as many commitments as you want but only sign 24 to scholarship on NSD. The numbers will shake out though in the end. I believe we had 10 committed players decommit and end up elsewhere last year.

Jones has a better idea of who is solid than we do right now.

This is a constant in recruiting and many of us have said it before, the class you have in August is almost never the same class you end up with in February. The way that numbers will work is that kids will be asked by the staff to look elsewhere or will look elsewhere on their own.

Ryan callhaun said the number was 25 on the radio.
I think we get to around 30 commits and lose 5 commits. Jmo

Last year we all had the same conversation about numbers, back counting, and "loopholes." Many thought there was some loophole CBJ had in his hip pocket to get more recruits. That didn't happen and it won't happen this year. The number is 24, and we will see the coming and going to fit into that number. For those recruits who need to go JUCO, it will be interesting to see if they eventually become Vols next year.

Isn't there a rule for every one scholarship over the 25 you lose 2 scholarships the following year? I think I have read that before on here which doesn't make it right, but if so, any chance we sign a few extra this year and just take the penalty? I don't think there will be anywhere near 25 spots available next year anyways, but last year at this time I didn't think we would sign a full class this year either and that is looking very likely.

Best and most accurate post yet. And the sad thing is we had the exact same debate last year. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. I'd advise the rest of you to do the same. Abernathy, Martin, Allen, Burrell, Phillips? Who's next?

I still think with Richmond making a visit, he will flip--- just a gut feeling....

I wish this were the case, but it ain't. He is solid to Ole Miss and as long as nothing big changes down there he will be there next year. Momma loves it down there and loves the staff.

Also have grey shirt/ blue shirt stuff. We will probably lose a few along the way as well to non qualifying grades or other schools, discipline, etc.

I think I read where the penalty is 3. IMO there is no chance CBJ would do that.

Per usual this board is wrong. Last year we took 32, when people for over a year on this board kept saying we couldn't take more than 30.

I am not going to expound on the details of how we get to 28 other than what i have said already. It's already been noted that the staff has said to some people around the program at a function that we will "sign" 28 and finish with a top 5 class.

You guys can try to argue and debate about how we get to 28 till you are blue in the face, but that is out of BJ's own mouth. So unless you guys know more about our staff's plans than Butch himself, i'll again defer to the brilliant braintrust and group-think of Volnation.
