We Have 25 Commits

Leb, you know squat about the numbers. Last year we would have taken more than 32 if guys if like Orlando Brown (remember him the guy that our staff was angry that he signed with oklahoma on signing day...), Travis Rudolph, Braxton Berrios, David Sharpe, Jarran Reed, Andrew Williams, Clifton Garrett, Adoree Jackson etc.....all those guys were recruited hard all the way up to signing day, but i guess we were just going to drop 8 current players for some of these guys......right.

I forgot Leb who didn't even understand or know about the Financial Aid Agreement papers until months after it was leaked to this board, again knows more than our coaches and important alums.

You are retarded if you believe Butch is going to talk about the numbers to the media. Believe it or not, people that go to big alumni functions and talk to the coaches here and there, know some things that don't make it out to the media. Further, i'd be willing to bet that even if certain media members did get hold of information like this, they are smart enough to know to sit on it since its not important news, it's strategy and private information to our program, and they don't want to risk losing their access over a piece of information that really does not gain more readers and is a non-story to most readers.

Too much gluten. :yuck:

What you fail to grasp or understand is that recruiting is fluid and it is a dynamic and reactive set of events. You may be pro lets keep all of our commitments, but that is just a small part of the puzzle. Not all of our commits are 100% sure. Some are still keeping their options open, some are taking visits and phone calls. Some are worried about getting dropped. Some are worried about what position they are going to play in college. Just like some of the current commits are looking around, our coaches are not only recruiting others in case of a couple of last minute defections, but they are also recruiting guys that are takes no matter what. Butch knows the numbers will work themselves out. The number Butch is most concerned with is the 85 number. That is why he has gone to great lengths to make sure several players are on track to graduate this fall semester. There are ways to challenge former scholarships and LOI's and redshirts etc... There are ways to count forward. Just let the staff do what they do best and things will work themselves out. Just be happy we are going to end up with another top 5 class and stfu already lol.

This x1000 let Butch sign 30 again but the most important number is 85 come August! Wouldn't be surprised if some guys on the current roster are encouraged to transfer to make room for the newer players we saw this last year

South Carolina has signed and placed about 7 guys from last years recruiting class. This practice still goes on, it just takes a different form. The method has changed, but the result is still the same.

They signed 26 players in last year's class. That's all that matters. 1 was backcounted because they took 24 in 2013.

He cannot sign 30 because he cannot backcount 5 to last year's class.

I should have said let him sign 30 if he wants too....but the most important number is 85

I understand the sentiment. I do. But hear me out.

Let's say after this season is over, we somehow had 30 open scholarships under the 85. Butch still couldn't sign 30 due to the SEC maximum of 25. We took the MAX last year, so he cannot backcount EEs this year.

Last year the Southeastern Conference began limiting its schools to 28 national letter of intent football signees between signing day and May 1. The NCAA then adopted the rule for this year.

However, the rule has failed to curb the practice of "oversigning" in major college football — signing more players than spots available. Schools can still oversign, then figure out the math later. To meet NCAA limits (85 scholarship players, no more than 25 enrolled each fall), schools can delay an athlete's enrollment until the following January, called grayshirting. Or schools with oversigned classes can send recruits to junior college. Or they can make room on the roster by revoking the scholarships of current players or by encouraging them to become medical redshirts

I got this info from the article here Rules fail to curb schools from oversigning football players - USATODAY.com

That's a 2011 article. For the 2013 class and beyond, the SEC implemented a maximum 25 SIGNEE rule. If the player signs a national letter of intent, regardless if they qualify, they count towards that 25.

The article you quoted is 3 years old and the rules changed a year later.

Question I got is why the heck would the SEC make such a stupid bonehead move like limiting their schools to 25 signees? If the other conferences don't follow suit all that does is put as in the hole recruiting against non SEC conferences. Stupid.

The article I read on Turner said he planned on playing baseball also. Could he sign a scholarship with baseball then be considered a walk on with football and his scholarship not count against our 25?

To my understanding, no. I believe this goes back to the Bear Bryant days. Dude would sign players to gymnastic scholarships (and other sports) to avoid limits. If you're on athletic scholarship and play football, it counts against the football numbers.

If CBJ has said "we will sign 28", obviously no one has seen it. Rivals, Scout, 247, Hubbs, Callahan, no one has mentioned 28 as being a possibility for signees in 2015other than you. Getting to 32 last year was possible by back counting. With no spots to back count, 28 sounds like a lot of BS to me.

I would like to hear the context of the quote. "Sign" 28 and "bring in" 28 are completely different things. Signing means LOI of FA agreements, which is either 24 or 25. "Bringing in" can be stuff like PWO's and gray shirts.

These booster meetings seem to end up like high dollar games of "telephone" sometimes.

They are. I have been to many of them. Lots of coach speak and similar things to what is said to the media.

Daddy, if i attempted to tell you how we get 28 and the methods they use, i would be speculating.

I have my own guesses and opinions on how i think we will get to 28 or possibly even more, but they are just opinions. I don't claim to know Butch's exact plan, but i do know and have heard with my own ear's that he intends to sign 28.

I only brought this little bit of info because i've also heard a few commits are worried about their spots bc of rumors they are hearing from rival coaches and message boards and radio shows. All this incorrect speculation by various loudmouth individuals is in fact making our coaches jobs a little bit tougher having to keep on reassuring our commits while trying to recruit other prospects and coach....

I've heard the same stuff as to us signing 28-29 guys. It's pointless to bring to the board however. My aunt works in the AD and passes things along to me. Concern is real with some of these kids hearing all this crap about our class being full and being recruited over. It's all speculation and it's silly that some have to drill the subject into the ground. No one really knows for sure how the staff will do it. The only number that really matters is 85. Why can't people just let things unfold and see how it shakes out. Smdh...

Yep, i agree, but its a free board and its Volnation. It's not exactly a bastion of football knowledge and true insiders. Guys like leb love to find poorly written and very vague articles from USA today and quote a few rules from the NCAA rules and suddenly people on here seem to believe that these guys actually know something. Of course that is why he spends 10 hours a day 365 days a year posting on volnation in the first place instead being an actual lawyer or athletic administrator.
