We would be winning 9-10 games if Kiffin was still here....

I don't know about winning 9-10 games, but the last 3 years or so wouldn't have been as poor.

It amazes me how biased our fan base remains against Kiffin. The only reason people have the reaction for him they do here is because of the way he left us. Nobody ever mentions the fact the majority of the fan base was all for him and thought we were going in the right direction before his early exit to SoCal on a mid-January night.

@ OP I think you are a big vocal part of the reason we got stuck with Kiffin to begin with. There was a small vocal part of our fanbase...mostly guys mid 20s or younger, who had no sense of history before the Fulmer glory years or conception of what it actually takes to build a big time football program, especially at a place with somewhat limited in-state recruiting like Tennessee.

Hammy probably listened to those fans, and looked at the reaction to the brash (though not to the point of being an ahole like Kiffin...plus HE BACKED IT UP) Pearl, who Hammy hired and was his "big success story".

Somehow he looked at Kiffin and saw another Pearl...but the bottom line is that guys like you, who favor braggadocio and blind arrogance over actual competence, were a big part of the most vocal people wanting the "boring" Fulmer gone and apparently thought all you had to do was change coaches to win the NC in 3 years because bammer lucked into Saban.

The only good thing about the last 5 years is people like you learning just how wrong they were. :)

Based on what? He recruited rough around the edges players and told two future heismen candidates to walk. And he proved at usc he couldnt coach

Haha. I can't believe I missed this thread! Most ignorant, ever!!!! He is unemployed for a reason. Him leaving was the best thing that ever happened to us!

Yeah, yeah guys, I know he is the biggest slimeball snake to ever set foot on Shields-Watkins Field. He put the knife in all of our backs, and I hate him for that and how he did it..no question! I wish him the worst!

BUT, that slimeball snake brought valuable characteristics to this program such as confidence, swagger and arrogance! Do you guys realize that Tennessee was the most talked about 5-7 team EVER?! In one year, that man had TN football back on the map! Yeah, we went a mediocre 7-6, but look at the results from some of those games. We had to play #12 Virginia Tech in the Peach Bowl which wasn't fair, so he really could have/should have went 8-5. Hell, if Cody doesn't block the FG he could have easily went 9-4! Kiffin is what WE NEEDED at the time...I thought it was the PERFECT hire! Just turned out to blow up in our faces...but who saw that coming?!

So, with all this being said, what are some of your thoughts on Kiffin? Did you like him and feel was the perfect guy for the job when he got hired? Did you like his swagger and Cali arrogance? Do you think if he had stayed we'd be relevant again winning 9 or 10 wins...making New Years Day and BSC bowl games?

I'll admit, It killed me when I found out he was leaving...total dagger. I enjoyed his only year in Knoxville. Yeah, he made some horrible decisions off the field, but that man was just what the Doctor ordered AT THAT TIME!

This has to be a bad joke. He had us in the news for all the wrong reasons. He was a nut, and he almost destroyed us. How many of his recruits stayed? He could not even win at SC with the weak schedule. The SEC was absolutely too rough for him.

We have the right man in Butch Jones.

Most recruits left because Dooley was a loser. With Kif we would have had Bray at qb, Bryce Brown at rb, Aaron Douglass at lt with JH/DR on the outside. He was pulling in top ten classes so the d would have improved. We would have won with Kiffin. I do like BJ and think he is the man now. But for everyone to act like Kiffin was not on the right track here are lying to themselves.

Those top 10 classes were robbing stores and getting run down by security guards on campus... Or smoking the hippie lettuce like they wouldnt grow anymore...and failing multiple drug tests... Sounds like a solid foundation Kiffin was laying to me...

Ole Kiffin is kinda like an ex-wife......the fun days were fun, but sure pisses ya off when she runs off with your best friend...and your bank account !!:eek:lol:

The 98 must have been the year you started following Tennessee or the one you were born in..either would validate this abject stupidity

Nope, I was in my junior year in 98, thanks for playing! Started watching and following UT since the Chuck Webb days. When you do attend UT from 97-2000, you are one spoiled, rotten fan...Ill admit :D

Like he was on the right track at SoCal, with a much more talented team even with probation? Ask SoCal fans what they think of him.

And what about "rowrowrow futball" Ed Ogeron completely out coaching him after he left? How bad do you have to be to let THAT dumbass out coach you????

What about deliberately running 1:10 off the clock to try a 43 yard fg when your kicker already missed TWO that day from the same distance and was under 50% from outside 40 for the season? I'm talking bammer 2009 here...if *I* knew we were effed the minute he decided to run the clock out, how could a freaking HEAD COACH not be aware that his kicker suxed from outside 40 yards? And DELIBERATELY run the clock out! That's Forest Gump stupid there.

Best line I have heard on Kiffin goes all the way back to 2008, when word first leaked out that he was the next coach. It was the Friday before Phil's final game, and the sports center talking heads were discussing Kiffin being the new UT coach. Best line was Corso when they asked him for his final thoughts on Kiffin...."I'm still trying to figure out why the Raiders hired him". :eek:lol:

I never liked him as coach...I supported him because I had to, and I did like his dad being DC (at least until we played Ole Miss) and his supposed recruiting prowess (for all of which, the best he ever did was no. 9), but I always thought that as an HC he was an extreme reach...of course he turned out to be more a of a "reach around" guy. :lolabove:

Yeah, I remember it vividly because I was there. Almost got in a fight with a Bammer fan...got kicked out and came back in..stupid cops! lol

I was ****ting out bad Smokey dogs 20 years before that..Go back upstairs, your mom needs the phone line

He was so bad that he got fired, midseason and not allowed on the team bus after his last loss at USC. But if he had stayed here, in the SEC he'd be killin it and playing for conf championships? Is that right? Sure buddy, whatever you say.
