We're Not Young...

Actually. I'll say that the VOLS lost yesterday because they were beat in a very close, hard fought battle, to a team that was suppose to beat us very easily.

Hooold on there Bobalouie - how many times have the Vols been beaten by teams with less talent on the field in the past 15 years? Answer: Plenty. I like CBJ but it was not Worley's injury that lost us the game nor the youthfulness of the players. Anyone who honestly buys that is making excuses for the coaching staff.

We had both a talent and experience disadvantage yesterday. Those are facts and to have a chance to win means the coaching was pretty solid in my opinion.

We are Talented, and talented enough to beat anyone in the SEC East this year. We faced a horrible Georgia team yesterday and came away with another road loss. Sorry, but this is eerily reminding me of the end of Fulmer's reign where he couldn't coach himself out of an open paper bag. Yesterday's game was ours to win, but we went in to our "let's not lose the game" vs "let's win the game" mentality.

We have the talent on the field - we just need a group of coaches to provide the leadership and direction for the team to follow.

I agree that we changed once we got the lead. Once we lost it we turned it back on and started scoring again but it was too late. Had we never changed and continued to play aggressive... We would have won. This is an ongoing theme with Butch. We did the exact same thing last year against both Vandy and sc once we got the lead. Sc came all the way back and took the lead. Butch has done such a great job recruiting I hate to be critical but it's the truth. We need our coaches to coach much more aggressively

I was upset to see the runs called on 1st down up by ten when we should have put on more steam. I was upset not to see power t after worley went out. I would like to here coach talk about redshirting Dobbs because Dobbs would have had some nice runs. But let's realiz that we called a better game than Hobo OK?. And recognize that we want talent and recruiting. Look at the intensity from everyone. It starts with Butch. And I guess your referencing our 10-2 season followed by the year we lost to the national champion bammers at home and he was canned? Go back in time and comprehend that firing Fulmer they way we did set the program back 8-10 years. Then u can appreciate what is happening right now. If we had more talent...all around the team providing depth and we continued to lose these games I'd be closer to your thought of coaching. Not yet.

I'm more impressed with that guy every time I watch him. He was a man among boys on that field yesterday.

And to think, Georgia has three more guys behind him who could probably start at a lot of schools. That stable of backs is impressive.

In all honesty, I wish Tennessee had a power run game. I love watching teams that can successfully run the football down people's throats.

Soon :rock::yes:

I've heard the young/depth excuse the last 5 years. How could that possibly be the same reason every year?

Because most of the young guys who became old during
Dools crapola sucked. About 40 percent of the roster are freshman. When you are playing that many in the SEC, you should not even have a chance in the SEC. Do these coaches make mistakes? Of course they do. They are human. Sabes at Bama makes them too. People who are fans like you just need to leave and don't come back because you are acting like a complete fool. If we are still losing these games three years from now then fire them for sure. You fire them now then you become Vandy.

You and armchair walking that green mile together?

Nope - but it is a message sent across the bow that our talented players need some consistent play calling on both sides of the field for 60 minutes. It's a chess match and the games cannot be lost in the coaching booth. I like what CBJ has done off the field as much as I have ever respected any UT HC, but it has to translate onto the turf at some point, wouldn't everyone agree?

I think I will wait until I see the results after his first full class has played as seniors which will be after 2017. That would be prudent. You will get a guy who can't coach or recruit if you were to get rid of him now. His OC and DC are going nowhere. I am not a big fan of this offense but it did score 32 points even with 0 in third quarter and Peterman playing most of it.

You are missing the entire point. Our coaches have to call the right plays for the talent on the field. Peterman is not as talented as Worley, but tons of teams won yesterday and every Saturday with less talent than their opponents. And why? Because the coaches did their part and used the talent accordingly. Upsets = Better Coaching

Like SC last year perhaps?

Never once did I say a coach should be fired

Fulmer's trainwreck and the following issues caused our program to go far back.

That seems a bit contradictory to what you've been saying the whole time in this thread.

Then you must've not really read my posts. I've said all along the youth excuse is exaggerated. IMO , youth didn't cost UT the game yesterday. I think the offensive played well at times.

You can debate reasons for the loss, but you can't really debate that this is a young team.

I'm not. It is a young team, but that's not why UT lost yesterday. The freshman played pretty damn good for the most part.

What's to question! I agreed that you can downplay youth. I don't think the o-line has played as bad as everyone thinks. Hurd had a good game. Worley had a great game. The o-line has to get some credit for that.

I actually mentioned this in another thread. O-line still has a long way to go, but they DID play better than they did in the OK game. I also believe as good a game as Hurd had, the hand off in the endzone should have been to Lane.....not Hurd. Put the ball into the hands of a RB that is used to being in those types of situations, not someone playing in their fourth game.

I think GA makes a good point. I think some people are upset with the past decade of Tennessee football, which is more than understandable. But this staff has coached 16 games at Tennessee. You can't hold them responsible for what's happened prior.

Thanks. I'll be humming this all day now.

Just when I start to feel like I'm getting old, you guys remind me what old really is.

I'm expecting a strongly worded letter in the mail for that comment. And no Freak, I will not duel you.
