Were we overmatched, outcoached or just lackadaisical with today's effort?

UGA is best team in the nation and the Vols had their full attention tonight. Major problems tonight:
-- UGA DBs locked up the Tennessee WRs in man to man all night.
-- UGA tackles very well.
-- Tennessee needs to upgrade talent at the running back position.
-- The intensity of the UGA team and the the fans overwhelmed the Vols. Not ready for that
--UGA is just more talented than the Vols.....for now
--UGA had a better defense and took away what the Vols wanted to do.
--Stetson Bennett is very underrated at QB
--Tennessee special teams made another major mistake that set up horrible field position early in the game. Led to an easy TD for UGA
--UT Special Teams has done this once in about every game but Vols have been able to overcome it but unable to do so tonight

The good news is, the Vols kept fighting and made the score respectable. The Vols are still working on a very good season and have a lot left to play for. It's still great to be a Tennessee Vol.

I’m just gonna say it and let the chips fall where they may..as bad as it stings, this game wasn’t that far out of reach in a different environment. Neutralize the crowd noise somewhat (8 pre snap penalties) and consider the 3 sure TDs that were a bit overthrown, and this game could have gone either way. A second shot at GA on a neutral field, and I like our chances much better.
The crowd certainly attributed to our blunders.

Outmanned but outcoached as well. We didn’t adjust at all offensively. Hooker was hesitant all day and either had no check downs to throw too or didn’t see them. We missed a few deep throws that would have made it closer but the Dawgs were clearly the better team, especially at home. Georgia could have scored 40+ if they had kept playing aggressively on offense. Forgivable to lose to Georgia on the road, but we need to bounce back against Missouri next week. Still a remarkable season but need to end strong.

OP how ‘bout the trifecta, we had all three. I never saw a sense of urgency from the staff or players all night, other than our 2nd half defense.

Disagree. Hyatt slowed up on the deep ball. Receivers had a difficult time creating space. Hooker did not have time to go through his reads. We were beat.by a team with superior talent. We are not equal to UGA level yet. That's OK. There's a ton left to be excited about.

Which Hyatt deep ball are you referring to? He didn't slow up on the one early in the game on 3rd down. That was a bad play-call, by the way: It's generally not smart to throw a bomb when you need whatever we needed on that play--5 or 10 yards; odds of completing a deep ball are simply lower. Hooker had time in the first half, for the most part, but neither he nor our receivers nor Heupel could make anything happen.

-- UGA tackles very well.

That point right there was glaring. Once they got their arms wrapped around our guys, they were going to bring them down. We seemed to be grasping at air so many times when we tried to tackle.

I think our Defense adjusted well at halftime, I hoped the offense would as well but the rain put even more strain on the offense, just too much to overcome, I hope we get a chance to play them again somewhere down the line, their defense was stifling but the crowd noise and rain hurt us, love to see it again on a neutral field.

We had our chances to come back but blew them away.

Tennessee was dominated on the LOS both sides of the ball. It was totally that they were much more talented than the lineman on Tennessee. When handled like that it doesn't matter how good the players are elsewhere on the field or what the game plan is. You cannot win.

Bennett had all the time he needed to pass. Hooker likely had more sacks and pressures in this game than the first 8 combined. That is line of scrimmage losses.

Better team won the game today. Just how it is. We’ll keep building and getting stronger. Enjoy the year regardless of the outcome
