What are the "competative disadvantages"

I watched Harts presser and am curious about what our disadvantages that are historical are? Obviously they seem to be pretty important. Can somebody explain what he's talking about?

As of now our disadvantage is the fact that our AD is in debt and only has $1.9 million in reserves. We're basically broke.

Yep. This board is going to explode when a "home run" coach is not hired, but it shouldn't come as any surprise.

As well as the higher than normal academic standards that Cheek imposed that Hart says are being removed.

Eh, relax. I was mostly joking around. Until Hart does something very positive for our athletic program, I'm going to continue to needle him. The main point is, regardless of allegiances, for our AD to get up at a press conference, while he is looking for a new coach and to start talking about "competitive disadvantages" is a sign that maybe our AD isn't going to be doing such a great job selling Tennessee to our coaching prospects.

I wasn't attacking you personally. I figured you were probably being sarcastic but I just getting irrationally angry when the tin foil brigade comes out with this garbage. It's just flat out stupid.

I'm glad to see that the "Geography = athletic ability" theory is still going strong. Don't let the Dallas Cowboys find out, or they may cut Witten.

How does having less talented players in tn hurt us? We've been good before? Is that really a concern?

I don't think this is what he meant. Our Academics are on par with the rest of the league.

Travis Henry was admitted to Tennessee. Hart was not talking about academics.

I think he was referring to the availability (or lack thereof) of in-state talent.

Ut was good when other SEC schools weren't doing so well, Bama, GA, Usce, LSU and Fla. Also Fla has all those other Fla teams, SF, Fla Int, etc that those kids can stay home and be on TV almost every week. Ut's main recruiting grounds were in those states. Now each one of those schools have a competitive program with a good recruiter as a HC that keeps the best players in state. TN's best players are in west TN and they are a lot closer to several SEC schools than they are to UT. UT can and probably will get better but anybody that thinks all you have to do is hire a "Home Run" coach and the rest of the coaches in the SEC are going to lay down are going to be sadly disappointed.

Seriously, you spelled competitive wrong in the context of lowering academic standards?

The context was a question to other vol fans; what competitive disadvantages was he referring to?

Which has been answered by several. Thanks.

I will type more slowly as to avoid spelling errors, good lord...

An all instate class would rank #12 in Rivals. That said it would rank 6th in the league.

During Tennessee's heyday in the 90s, it was much easier to pluck top recruits from Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina. LSU, UGA and SC were average to below average programs.

Miles, Richt and Spurrier have done a great job of locking down talent within their respective state borders.
