What exactly does Butch Jones get?

Coach Jones wore a shirt that said, "I will give my all for Tennessee today.".... He gets it. But in all seriousness, Butch is doing all the right things since he has became Tennessee's head coach. He's selling the Tennessee brand, pride, and tradition. He's locking down top talent, and legacies that have bled Orange and White since they were in diapers. The man preaches excellence, and won't accept any less. We do things perfectly, and don't stop till it's done that way. He lives and breathes the game of football, and has been around the game all his life. He's bringing back former Vols that built Tennessee up to the top flight football program that it is today. Last but not least, he's making Tennessee football exciting again! Will it translate to wins, and solid improvement on the field? That remains to be seen. But he's done everything you could possibly ask of him for now, and then some! I'm proud to have Butch Jones as our head coach!

This......is.......it....take your jersey

What's the consensus on Jones so far? Does he seem like the right hire?
I'm a Hog fan and so far we're very happy with what we see from Bielema (although no one expects much better than 6-6 this season due to a young team and tough schedule).
You guys became my 2nd fav Sec team during our respective coaching searches and I really like your fanbase. Hope it's a great season for us both.

Happy with what he has done so far. We will see how the team plays for him. And then make a decision. GL with Belemia :good!:

He gets it because he can coach, and he has proven he is a winner. I don't care what conference you're in, if you can't coach (Doofus), then you're not going to win on any level.

I hear a lot of repetition among the idea that Butch Jones "gets it". In your opinion, both comical and serious, what exactly does Butch Jones get?

Best response wins an old #16 Peyton Manning Jersey
He gets it....that "Sal Sunseri is a Bada$$, who is going to instill some toughness and discipline." Hard to imagine that the same folks saying "Butch gets It" were also lavishing praise on the worst DC we have had in UT football history...this time last year. Scary.

Same folks were drinking the Dool-Aid this time last year, as well. So, the moral of the story here, kids, is you DO NOT count your eggs before the Chicken is hatched...oh, wait. Must've been another Doolism. :)

I'm hopeful too. I really am. Very optimistic, especially with a huge OL and a huge WR corps (little green, albeit). But there is no sense in coronating CBJ until he has had a chance to merit it on the field. I'm sure he would agree with that, wholeheartedly.

A meltdown on volnation and maybe a few random fires here and there from what I gather so far from this board if he don't get it IMO

All fans want to win, that's why I typed "fans want to win". You are the one who wrote fans should be satisfied because a coach is "willing to give a damn about what it means to be a Tennessee Vol" otherwise they are part of the problem. I simply disagree with that statement.

I like love what Coach Jones is doing and the way he has approached building this program so far, but I'm certainly not satisfied because the guy gives a damn. I expect him to give a damn.

And how is some people reserving judgment until they see the actual product, "the dumbest thing going"? I mean, the on-the-field stuff is kinda the important stuff, IMO JMO.
You turned what I said inside out nearly. lol

Guess I should have written "happy" instead of "satisfy". And some fans "have" a problem, not "are" the problem.

The on-the-field stuff is lame because it should go without saying that all of us are waiting on game results. But he hasn't coached one at Tennessee yet so we can't really comment on that. Just everything else he's doing. And so far, I'm satisfied with what he's doing.

It's like the "X" in "X-Factor." No one knows what that's about either.

I don't really think it's about understanding Tennessee tradition. Jones is doing the same thing at UT that he would have done at Colorado or Purdue. Simply put, "it" is coaching. Coaching obviously involves a lot more than X's and O's and recruiting. It's doing all the things that make a team a family - bringing accountability among the players, inviting the fans and former players into the mix, canvassing the State and promoting "the family," etc. Kind of like "art" - I cannot describe it but I know it when I see it...

Butch gets that coaching at UT is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he doesn't want to blow it.

He "gets it" in that he relates to the players and instills confidence in them by complimenting them for the positives and correcting them for the negatives, the same principles that work for raising children. He is what I call "a players coach".

The only difference is Jones has a background of winning as a HC.

Not so crazy after all.

Fans who, like myself, have a wait and see attitude are not the problem. As a fan base, we've been burned way too much to expect everyone to jump on board right away. If you believe, that's your prerogative, but don't act like I'm not a real fan, or worse I'm part of the problem. I'm not responsible for the terrible leadership at UT.

And waiting for results is lame? That's so ridiculous it's hard to respond. I had the same attitude with the previous coaches.

He's surprised me with some of the commits so far, but I'm hoping he gets more linemen. And this talk in the spring means nothing if they struggle for the next couple of seasons. Is he a step up from Dooley? Yes, but that should never be the benchmark. So I'm going to wait and see... With some doubts but hoping for the best.

That seems perfectly normal to me.

I think that he gets it meaning he understands just what it is to be a vol. It is when ur goin to paint something and the first two colors that cone to mind are orange an white. It is understanding when u go in neyland stadium players like reggie white al wilson peyton manning gave there all for Tennessee an i should to. It is hearing rocky top an having a small tear in ur eye. It is that first night game an there's a little cool breeze an you see the t open up and the look in your little loved ones eye as they watch them run through for the first time an the expression on their face is like wow. It is more than a coaching job. More than just a football game. It isnt a obsession it's a passion .
