What exactly does Butch Jones get?

Fans who, like myself, have a wait and see attitude are not the problem. As a fan base, we've been burned way too much to expect everyone to jump on board right away. If you believe, that's your prerogative, but don't act like I'm not a real fan, or worse I'm part of the problem. I'm not responsible for the terrible leadership at UT.

And waiting for results is lame? That's so ridiculous it's hard to respond. I had the same attitude with the previous coaches.

He's surprised me with some of the commits so far, but I'm hoping he gets more linemen. And this talk in the spring means nothing if they struggle for the next couple of seasons. Is he a step up from Dooley? Yes, but that should never be the benchmark. So I'm going to wait and see... With some doubts but hoping for the best.

That seems perfectly normal to me.

Man idk, he's doing and saying all the right things to get the people fired up and getting our boys right. Because of Butch Jones we have become the "next big thing" for recruits. Kind like Ole Miss last year. He's got that knack.

Most important, he knows how to communicate, and motivate. He understands the importance of organization and attitude. He knows the importance of details and responsibility. In short, he gets IT.

He "gets it" in that he relates to the players and instills confidence in them by complimenting them for the positives and correcting them for the negatives, the same principles that work for raising children. He is what I call "a players coach".

And that's what we need and needed all along. Although I like mike rice's style of coaching........

I kid I kid I kid!!!!!!!

Come on guys, he's got "it" and he gets "it" You know what I mean. . .

All fans want to win, that's why I typed "fans want to win". You are the one who wrote fans should be satisfied because a coach is "willing to give a damn about what it means to be a Tennessee Vol" otherwise they are part of the problem. I simply disagree with that statement.

I like love what Coach Jones is doing and the way he has approached building this program so far, but I'm certainly not satisfied because the guy gives a damn. I expect him to give a damn.

And how is some people reserving judgment until they see the actual product, "the dumbest thing going"? I mean, the on-the-field stuff is kinda the important stuff, IMO JMO.

This describes the way I feel +10000000 but yet Im not a real vol fan..

To date he is doing exactly what a good coach needs to do to set the foundation to a successful program. The only way that ends well is if he wins n beats bama Fla ga etc.

Waiting for results is one thing but I get so tired of "let's see it on the field" being posted every time somebody has anything positive to say about Jones and this staff. The last thing I am worried about is getting my hopes up only to have my poor little ole fragile heart broken once again by failure. I am going to enjoy every moment of this ride back to the top and I honestly believe that is where we are headed! Championship teams are not built overnight and I feel like right now Jones is laying a damn good foundation!

That's you're right, just like it's mine to wait and see. I'm not somehow less of a fan for it. I hope he does well.

The IT that bUTch Jones gets is the same IT that cause you to be a Vol fan.. ITs not about location, or records, or money, the IT that he gets is the tradITion, IT is the hIsTory.. He gets the way no matter where you are or what your doing Rocky Top gives you goose bumps and you cant resIsT the WHOOO that makes everybody look at you... He knows that what this universITy need is unITy, not just wITh current players, but wITh former players, and fUTure players, and fans, parents, and coaches... This is about bring the pride back to wearing the orange (that gets made fun of if you live in a different area than Tennessee) and whITe... bUTch Jones is running this team as if he were a long time fan and the fate of the entire universITy were in his hands..

i could be off here 92, but i think you get singled out because you respond to everything optimistic, with negativity.

No, I think he brings objectivity to the board. There are a lot of posters that seem to live in a vacuum.

Last year, Dooley "got it"....the VFL program, climbing Rocky Top, etc.

I understand the need to grasp a hold of anything you can as a fan to feel better about the program. Jones would be doing the same things if he took the Colorado job. He's not just doing it because it's UT.

The bottom line, when UT travels to Oregon and UF back to back...most likely returning with a 2-2 record is the buzz still going to be there when South Alabama comes to town...or will there be 65K fans in the stadium?

I agree with what Jones is doing. He's creating a family atmosphere at UT. He's saying, "we're all in this together." I'm thrilled he's opening the doors to alums and using social media to relate/communicate with recruits and fans.

I just hope all the fans that are on the bandwagon now are still saying positive things about Jones come October. After all, Dooley "got it" as well. Now he's an idiot who "didn't" get it.

Dooley did not get close to getting it. I supported Dooley through most off his time here but I did it out of a sense of duty because he was our coach. I supported Dooley but found myself scratching my head half the time saying what was up with that.

Go back and read the threads on this board when the team ran the steps in Neyland and climbed Rocky Top. He got it.

I don't care to go down memory lane. You are correct. Dooley got it.
