What exactly does Butch Jones get?

To me so far it means, connections. He seems to be connecting with the current players, former players, future players, university admin and it's faculty. He is doing all the right things getting it done so far. We'll see how it turns out next season but I certainly feel better about it than I did a couple months ago.

It's the way of the coaching transition. The new guy is a breath of fresh air with a new attitude. The last guy is the dumbest SOB to ever grace the campus.

I think Lane Kiffin might own that honor. . .

Yea, new coach is a God 'til his first game. Then he gets human real quick. But 'til Fall................

I assume someone has already said this, but it's a new page, so...

Butch Jones "gets" that he has to coach solid, fundamental football; to help our existing players become men of character with the desire, fortitude and psychology for winning; to recruit new players who want to be part of this process while increasing the overall talent level of the team; to create a public perception that Tennessee is a "program on the rise"; to win back the hearts and minds of a dejected fan base, while restoring honor and dignity to the University in a way that recruits new fans from the public and media alike; and, ultimately, that it is his responsibility to stomp an absolute, unequivocal mud hole into Alabama, Florida and Vanderbilt. Based on the news reports, he seems to be working on this plan.

Wtf, why say Vanderbilt? They are not a team I give two craps about going into the season. Florida, Georgia, and Bama. Those are the schools we should be concerned with beating. I mean with your low standards, then why didn't you add Kentucky in that crazy a list of yours.

It's a traditional rival. It's cool if you don't want to learn the traditions and history of our team, but that doesn't require you to flaunt your ignorance publicly.

Good line.

Ok buddy. I need to learn that we traditionally beat Vanderbilt. You left out Kentucky then. They beat us two years ago chief. You can use the same logic as to why you listed Vanderbilt for Kentucky.

I'm saying, who cares about that when Florida, Georia, Bama, and lil USC are the schools we should concern ourselves. I don't think Bama is too worried about beating Ole Miss and Miss State. Why? Because its what they do.

Yea, clearly CDD didn't "want it". Really?!?!

Hey if you want to go and pry him away from the cowboys and stick him on your coaching staff then come back in 3 years and tell us if he gets it!...Because I'll guarantee You'll sure get it!:eek:lol:

Read it. Junior year in college. American History.

It's a message board pal. Not trying to win friends, I'm stating my opinion.

I'm still not clear what your opinion is. Is your point that Butch should try to beat Georgia? I think everyone already agrees that it's important to beat Georgia when we play them, because that's how sports works. So... what are you trying so hard to get me to understand?

I think his point is, he doesn't care about Vandy just FL, GA and Bama.

So we beat all three and end up tied in wins with GA and FL and only have Vandy and KY left. GA has Tech and FL has the Noles.

Bet he cares then. Haha.

To be fair. I can remember a time I didn't give a crap about Vandy either. But it's been a while.

My perception of Georgia is probably colored by the facts that: (a) I was at UT from 1996 through 2000, which was a time during which Georgia was literally an afterthought; and (b) while I love to hate David Green and David Pollack, even Georgia's recent revival has been largely forgettable. We took some pretty modest teams and beat the silver britches off the Dawgs. Historically, we have owned Georgia.

South Carolina is only a concern insofar as we have made them look respectable in recent years. But Spurrier is old, and he will not be there forever, and even while he is, we should get back to beating the Gamecocks regularly.

The monkeys on UT's back are clearly Alabama and Florida. Florida is a school that we lose to even when we are better than they are, and I hate them for it, among other things. Alabama I just hate. Someone needs to put a stop to their nonsense.

Vanderbilt is a team that has clawed its way up somehow, and they need to have the dignity knocked back out of them. Scoff if you want, but trying to make Vanderbilt irrelevant again will be an important part of the process in Knoxville.
