What has happened to VolNation and its fans?

Good post VolFreakJosh. A lot of truth there.

GaVol, Freak and I were just swapping emails about this issue the other day. Hard to believe Vols can be so derogatory toward each other and then pile on unnecessarily.

I think there's about a dozen threads bashing the fans in general and Volnation members in specific. I feel so saddened to know I'm such a terrible fan. :cray:
I can't keep them all straight, hman. Someone almost had me convinced the other day that I am not a fan.

he took over for palardy from last year (who I'm proud to say is doing extremely well)

That's a great point. Palardy put of with a lot of criticism last year. And let's face it, his kicking stunk. Dooley really screwed him up.

I'm really happy for him, that he's having such a productive senior year so far.

It's just the accumulation of what's been going on over the last several years. Everyone is frustrated and getting mental

Agreed sat next to Bill Paxton during USA game, he didn't take it well...

I bet most of you have a football. Take it outside and play. You might be black and blue the next day if you play with freaking little lunatics like I do, but I promise you will have fun.

I feel great after our neighborhood game today.

I've been a Tennessee fan my whole life living in Kentucky. I didn't have that many Vol fans to talk too. I discovered VolNation so I could talk about Tennessee football with other Vol fans around the world. When I first came on here, everyone was so nice and welcomed me like I was family. It was enjoyable to talk about recruiting, coaching, the team, etc. Every since the season as started, it seems like all I see is Vol fans bashing the team, the coaching, or each other. I can understand people getting upset over a stupid play or something like that but it's like there's always someone complaining about something: Butch Jones can't coach, our quarterbacks sucks, our offensive line is overrated, we should just give up the rest of the season, etc.. It's getting to the point where I don't even like to come on VolNation anymore. Im not trying to bash anyone but it's the truth. I didn't expect us to dominate this season, I knew we was going to have a rough time learning the new system and stuff. Sure we might be struggling now, but give Buch Jones a couple of more years and he'll have this team competing in the SEC again. He just doesn't have the horses to compete yet but we shouldn't bash the team just because they're struggling. It just makes us look bad. Again, I believe Butch Jones is the right man for the job. He knew it would be a big challenge to turn this program around and it's going to take him a few years to restore it. Like I said before, we might struggle to win some games this year, but there's no reason for some of you Vol fans bashing the coaches and the whole team. They don't deserve that. You can make fun of this thread all you want too but I'm speaking for everyone, that it's time for some of us Vol fans to act more mature and not act like a bunch of babies everytime something goes wrong. It doesn't make the team better and it sure as heck doesn't make us look better either. We should always have confidence in this football team!

Take heart...there are more of us'n than them'n...it just seems like they are legion because of the potent mixture of bathtub crank and barnyard estrogen harvested from dairy cows that are poured on their Special K every morning...pure concentrated negavol hate doesn't naturally occur...IT'S SYNTHESIZED! :)

play football by myself? how would I do that?

I don't imagine you would. Have friends? Kids of your own or live in a neighborhood full of them?

I started just tossing the ball with my kid. We now have about seven regulars ready to play on a daily basis.

Some of us are old enough to remember UT relevance. If your life in the fall is totally wrapped up in UT football, then I can understand the legions of the miserable. I used to be that way - until the 2001 SECCG. I knew I couldn't go on allowing my emotions to escalate or nose-dive based on what 18-22 yr. olds did on the field having been coached by guys making a lot of money who sometimes made stupid coaching mistakes. Having 3 kids also helped readjust my compass. I still pull for UT, but I don't hang on each outcome like I used too. Our program has been in tail-spin mode since '08. We've begun to think/act/react like losers because we've been losing so much. If CBJ were smart, he'd have signed a 4-year, guaranteed-tenure, contract at the least given the hole this storied program is in.

Exactly. You hit it on the nail my friend.

Good analogy. As we all know, the "Legions of the Miserable" have existed since at least Coach Majors' tenure, since he so eloquently dubbed that hypercritical segment of Vol Nation by the aforementioned moniker. The anonymity of the internet unfortunately fosters UNBRIDLED communication. Particularly in the aftermath of a disappointing defeat, people will volcanically spew sentiments which they might be far more reluctant to voice in the context of a face-to-face conversation with a stranger.

To answer your question, River Duck, I have been a diehard member of the Big Orange Nation for 46 years and I tend to avoid the boards for a few days after a disappointing loss, simply because I know that the Legions of the Miserable will be out in full force. Coach Jones has emphasized repeatedly that you can either be a fountain or a drain. I am sure that you can accurately determine the appropriate category for the Negavols.

I no longer throw screwdrivers through walls or wanna get drunk because we lose a game.

it's better to get drunk before and during the game to dull the pain when they lose--jack daniels makes it feel better

Volosaurus rex, well-spoken and thank you sir. Legions of the Miserable. We have some of those as well, always finding something to complain about. 46 years makes you a diehard Volunteer. I've been a Duck for 41. Cheers!

Yet...the fans are still around talking about it. People care. I think that says a lot about the tradition of UT football.

Our QB situation is absolutely unprecedented. I remember Crompton short hopping the 15 yard outs with some degree of frequency, but I don't remember it being this bad. We are in uncharted waters five games into the season.

I took my boys to the Wyoming game in 2008. It was their first UT game. I haven't seen the Vol offense sink that low before or after that embarrassing performance against Wyoming.

BTW, I remember Crompton not being able to get a single first down against a bad Auburn team that makes Worley look like a superstar.

To sum it up quickly, the maturity level of this board is at an all time low. And don't try and reason with spoiled brats.:hi:

The good news (1) Dooley is gone (2) Hamilton is gone. So, let's continue the process of re building this program.

Brick by Brick!!!!

If any of have expectations of a winning season this season then you might want to re adjust your thinking.
I am looking for good effort, good recruiting, and improvement this season and next season. In 2015, I expect to see our first winning season and our first bowl victory.

I think if anyone is a Vol fan at this point, they're a true fan and have the right to be a little disgusted with the state of the program.

Exactly! So why can that not work for some of these fans? We got rid of the AD and so on and maybe time for some of these fans to go ahead and jump ship. Move on or be a Vol. These kids good or bad need our criticisim but constructively not to the point of bashing. They are kids and have been through about as much changes and anyone in the game. It is going to take time. Fill the seats, cheer, be a fan, but most of all be a damn grown-up about it. Live it, breathe it, Bleed it, I am all ORANGE!!!!!
