What has to happen for Tennessee to get into the playoffs now?

This may be my first post. Not sure. The team played well tonight against an elite UGA team. The one drive with the questionable facemask and BS 12 men on the field was the deciding factor tonight. With that being said, after the showing tonight, what has to happen for us to have an opportunity to play in the playoffs?
Win the last 2! 10-2 is a playoff team!

Here’s a breakdown as of this morning. We’re still in the Top 12, but left out of the bracket currently.

I am very intrigued to see how they decide all this. It comes down to how many SEC teams make it over a 1 or 2 loss non SEC team.. like Indiana

Always the question.. Best teams or best record

I think we miss it

Win out, TAMU loses to Tex, and either SMU or Miami loses again. That would probably get us in as the last P4 team.

I know some say sec championship game shouldn't hurt loser. But it sort of depends, it's not like you can unsee it.

Well Wash St lost last week. We sure could use some help from Florida next week beating Ole Miss. Vandy beats LSU and we destroy Vandy helps us with the Head to Head games, as does Arky beating Mizzou. I think SCAR will throttle Clemson. I would like for Indiana and Mich to both beat OSU as well.

It’s not close to being over all these saying it is don’t know much about football or the playoff system. But we have to focus on playing well the last 2 games. GBO
I agree....I think most of the "its done", "we're through" stuff prob was posted to close to the loss last night. We definitely might not get in but IF we win out we'll have a good argument for sure. Was discussing the game last night with two big donors/supporters at church this morning. We all agreed...we (and prob not another team in America) were not going to waltz into Georgia last night and win. They had too much motivation etc (with last weeks loss, believing the playoffs started last night, first game back at home in 4 games, crowd was prob the best they've had in a long long time and several other factors) and we ran into a buzz saw the second half. It is still intriguing how some of Volnation responds to a loss.

We need either Notre Dame to lose, BYU to lose, or Indiana to lose 2. I would imagine even if Ohio state loses to IU they'd still be ahead of us. Let's go Army.

Essentially if BYU loses, Big XII is for sure only getting 1 team in. That might open one up for us. Penn State losing would also probably be enough given their awful schedule.

It is probably best now for Texas to win out through SECCG. That would hang an L on Georgia or Alabama and knock out aTm.
Florida could be our best ally next week beating Ole Miss in the swamp.

Teams still in it:

Army: Notre Dame, Navy
SMU: Virginia, Cal, ACCCG (lost to BYU)
Clemson: SCAR (lost to Georgia, Louisville)
Miami: Syracuse, ACCCG (lost to Georgia Tech)
BYU: Az St, Big12CG (lost to Kansas)
Colorado: @Kansas, B12CG (lost to Nebraska, Kansas State)
Oregon: Washington, B1GCG
Indiana: @ OSU, B1GCG?
OSU: Indiana, Mich, B1GCG? (lost to Oregon)
PennSt: @Minnisota, B1GCG? (lost to OSU)
Notre Dame: Army, @ USC (lost to Northern Illinois)
Boise State: MWCG (lost to Oregon)
Wash St: (lost to Boise St, New Mexico) ELIMINATED last night!
Texas: KY, aTm, SECCG? (lost to Georgia)
aTm: Texas, SECCG? (lost to Notre Dame, SCAR)
Georgia: Georgia Tech, SECCG? (lost to Alabama, Ole Miss)
Tennessee: Vandy, SECCG? (lost to Ark, Georgia)
Alabama: @OK, Auburn, SECCG? (lost to Vandy, Tennessee)
Ole Miss: @Florida, MissST, SECCG? (lost to KY, LSU)

18 Teams: I think 3-5 will eliminate themselves (probably Clemson, Colorado, ND-Army game loser, aTm), leaving 1-2 worthy teams on the outside looking in.

Let's take care of business the next 2 weeks! Get a quality win against Vandy who hopefully beats LSU next week.

You talking about next season? Oh, okay. For that to happen next season, we need a couple of coaching changes in the offseason and a top-5 recruiting class as well.

We don’t do that and we’ll get more of the same—a good football team that sometimes plays like a very good football but never as a championship football team. It is what it is. Upper-tier mediocrity most of the time.

After last night and taking into account the offensive juggernaut we've been witnessing lately, we definitely belong in the playoffs...... right?

UT and Texas need to win out. The AP and coaches poll both have UT 1st out. The question than becomes does a 3 loss team that lost conference championship game go over a 2 loss UT team? UT needs Texas to win championship and eliminate either Ole Miss, UGA, or Bama. The committee has shown in the past the willingness to jump the SEC championship loser and leave them out

I think the path to the playoffs is easy as long as we win out...

Oregon
Ohio state/Indiana possibly whoever wins the game
Penn state

Acc champion [no one else]

Big 12 champion [no one else]

Alabama
Ole Miss
Texas/Texas a&m whoever wins
Tennessee
UGA

Boise state G5 winner

End of story...
