What has to happen for Tennessee to get into the playoffs now?

I might have some stuff mixed up, but this is how much could bounce our way. Some seem super unlikely, but all are possible.

Nov 23rd
Army over Norte Dame
Ohio State over Indiana
Florida over Ole Miss
Kentucky over Texas

Nov 29th
Georgia Tech over Georgia

Nov 30th
Auburn over Alabama
USC over Norte Dame
Michigan over Ohio State
Texas A&M over Texas

Conference Championships
Oregon over Indiana
Texas over anyone that makes it
SMU over Miami
There's about a 1 in 3 chance that Notre Dame loses one of their last 2...a parlay of all the things that would get us in NOT occurring has to be over 90%. We win out we are in.

We need Florida to upset Ole Miss and Texas to destroy A&M…that would make us the the clear choice to be the 4th SEC team and I think right now after the 5 automatic slots are filled the committee will take 3 additional teams from the Big 10 and SEC plus Notre Dame.
A&M has 2 losses buddy. Any form of losing to Texas eliminates them

There's nothing that says the top four have to be a P4. There's a chance the AAC and MWC could get two of the top five spots with both being ranked ahead of the Big 12 champ. Boise is already in front of every Big 12 team. So, that's not necessarily true but it would require Army beating Notre Dame, a top 25 Tulane, and Navy. Not a likely scenario but not impossible. That would probably be enough to jump the Big 12 champ. Especially if Ariz St were to beat both BYU and Colorado in the Big 12 championship game.

The top 4 are taken from the 4 conference champs from the P4 conferences and the 'highest ranked' champions from all the other conferences. So both Boise State and Army will not be in the mix for a bye - only 1. They will then take the 4 highest ranked of those 5. I think the conference champ from the SEC and B1G are safe, but Boise State is right in the middle of the contenders in the ACC and B12.

For Army to make the playoffs they need the following to happen:

- Win out including winning their conference
- Boise State lose a game either regular season or the conference championship game.

Army is not going to jump Boise State unless Boise State loses a game and that is what needs to happen for them to make the playoffs.

For both Boise State and Army to get in they both would need to be in the 7-11 spots in the poll.

I’m expecting help from an unexpected source Saturday. I will be rooting for Florida against the Sip. And won’t be surprised when they win. Knock Kiffey out cold.

That is not true. The highest rated conference champs get the byes regardless of conference. Every P4 conference is guaranteed a spot not a top four seed.

My upset of the week a few weeks ago was SC over A&M and they got drilled. I think Florida beats Ole Miss this weekend.

Since we are the first team out we just need one upset. Surely there’s enough craziness to happen to get us in. I sure wish we could move up to hosting.
Clarification - we need a current at-large team to be upset. Any conference “champ” that gets upset will be replaced by another team from that conference.

No - there are 4 byes - those will come from the four P4 conference champ and the highest ranked P5 conference champ. Both Army and Boise State are in P5 conferences so only one of them could get a bye. The byes will be the highest 4 of those 5.

Or we need an upset that pushes Bama, Ole Miss or Georgia below us. If one of those are upset, we go up one place, because they drop with the 3rd loss.

Dude. No it won’t. The committee just released the latest with Boise having one of the byes. Not a P4.

It likely won’t happen but both could get in. You’re simply wrong here.

That is because Boise State is ranked 12 and the Big 12 contenders (BYU and Colorado) are below them at 14 and 16 .... 12 > 16.

I would be eager to see what would happen if Vandy beats LSU and us beat Candy to see how they view our wins.

Vandy very well could be 7-4 coming into our finale with wins over Bama and LSU

You said the top four are going to come from P4 conferences. That’s false.

If Army and Boise both win their respective conference and are ranked ahead of the Big 12 champ then both get in. That’s the bottom line.

Lots of doom and gloom and ignorance in here.

Notre Dame dropping one of their final two games (they may lose both)
Florida beating Ole Miss (in the Swamp, very possible)
It's far from over
I’ll be honest, I don’t think we really have to worry about SEC games… there are so many non SEC teams in the rankings that could send us into the playoff

To explain the interpretation of the rules as I read them for the byes.

Top conference teams if champs were based on the ranking:

- B1G = Oregon (1)
- SEC = Texas (2)
- ACC = Miami (8)
- Big12 = BYU (14)
- Non P4 = Boise State (12)

byes go to the highest ranked 4 which are (1) Oregon, (2) Texas, (3) Miami, (4) Boise State

If Army and Boise both win their respective conference and are ranked ahead of the Big 12 champ then both get in. That’s the bottom line.

Both BYU and Colorado are ahead of Army right now. Arizona State is 2 spots lower. If both BYU and Colorado win out the winner of the B12 game will be ranked higher than Army and may even jump Boise State. It would take both of those teams losing to open up a slot for Army ahead of them.

Right - those are currently all at-large teams. Or Notre Dame, or Penn State, or Indiana (maybe).

I know but this all started because I said it’s possible though not probable that Ariz St beats both Colorado and BYU and if Army were to win its last three (all against good competition) could finish ahead of Ariz St. and take the fifth spot.
