What other message boards are saying (NC State Pre Game Edition)

They play a ball control eat up the clock style game. Think something along the vein of one of Mark Stoops better KY teams that is more disciplined and doesn't get rattled like the Mildcats usually do

Even if we come out absolutely smoking on offense and keep it up the entire game, the score getting out of control ismost likely not gonna happen

Simple function of we're only gonna get so many possessions. The key for us is simply going to be converting the 6-7 possessions we have into touchdowns. We do that and the rest of things will take care of themselves.

We find ourselves doing having a 3 and out, kicking 2FGs, and getting one TD in the first half and we might be in trouble.

I'm gonna stick with my original prediction
Wolfpack keeps it close in the 1H and maybe even leads at halftime. Second half our depth starts becoming a factor and we slowly pull away winning by 10-14. 31-17 type of affair at the end of things. This is not going to be a pushover game and anyone with those delusions needs to get rid of them quick.

Reality is that Vols are likely to come out smoking hot in Q1 as they do against most anyone not named GA. Its going to be more like Wolfpacks after the first possession and TD:

People can believe what they like... but I believe the "theory" that Michigan gave USCe UT's signals. That team flat out wasn't good enough to do that to UT.
Why would Michigan give our signals to South Carolina? How did it benefit Michigan?

And when did Michigan scout us to steal our signals?

And when did Michigan scout us to steal our signals?
Michigan was scouting the Vols (and capturing our play signals) because we were at the time a potential CFP team, having just beaten Alabama to get to 6-0. In other words, a team Michigan either hoped to be in position to play in the playoffs, or a team whose season Michigan might be able to spoil, opening a spot for them to get into the playoffs instead.

They supposedly scouted us on Oct 29th, 2022, the Kentucky game. We were ranked #3 by the AP that day.

Michigan then supposedly gave those signals to USCe because (a) the cheater at Michigan was friends with more than one USCe coach (possibly including Shane Beamer), and (b) the thought by Michigan's cheaters was that USCe could beat the Vols, knocking us out of the playoffs, increasing Michigan's chance of getting in.

I don't know that any of this has been verified by the NCAA investigation. That continues to play out. But elements of it, like the Michigan cheater buying a ticket to the Vols-Kentucky game, have been verified.

Go Vols!

Oh, ok. I didn't recall any of those dynamics of playoff considerations.

Thanks.

Wow! I truly believe we can get to the 70s in terms of scoring. Imagine the hype going into Oklahoma and the fear they’ll have of us if we murk NC state and then handle business against Kent state. CRAZY HYPENESS!!!!

That's the classic Heupel trap. Our defense has typically been very good against the run. Forcing opponents into passing situations where we hope our DL can get home and disrupt any pass play.

When it works, it's a thing of beauty. By Q2, the opponent must abandon their game plan and try to play catch up.

There are likely two things that happened to make NC State ride the struggle bus and I don't know if either are true but are typical of these early games:

1. NC State has been practicing against Tenn. throughout camp and did a install of WKU that was late and vanilla. Explains a lot of the execution errors.
2. They are not as dialed as they will be with new QB and needed to gel a bit. Remicient of our struggles against UF in the mid to late 90s when we would have beaten them soundly later in the season

I believe we win this game by at least a couple of scores if we execute well but they are coming to play. NC State will show up ready to play and the early going will tell if this is a close one or a blowout. If we get up big early and keep the gas down it could be a nice win that bolsters our team's confidence. If we let them stay in it, play sloppy or make mistakes this game will be tight to the wire.

GBO!

By giving South Carolina our signals Michigan was hoping to put us out of the playoff picture. If we had gotten in, we would have most likely played them. Worked to perfection for them.

Because Michigan needed UT to lose in order to get into the playoff. UT likely takes their spot as an 11-1 SEC team if they don't lose to USCe.

The story I read was that the same guy who went around stealing signs from Big 10 teams came to at least one UT game... with no good reason to be there.

The theory is he scouted Clemson, and Tennessee, because both of those teams could have an impact on Michigan, making the playoffs. Kind of funny how South Carolina beat both of us and then loses like six or seven straight.

-I know the WCU game was only one game, but I do not have the warm and fuzzies about Tennessee game. If I was a betting man I would put it on Tennessee to cover.

-I might feel a smidge better if we manhandled WCU. Struggling to assert dominance until the 4th quarter may be typical for a Doeren led opener but nonetheless worrisome. We don't usually win games like Tennessee.

-I've never felt like we were going to beat Tennessee...just hope we can keep the score respectable and not lose by more than 10. Right now, I don't think we will keep it within 21.

-We should probably stop scheduling games against big programs at the beginning of the season. We just don’t fare well.

-The simple fact is, we always start slowly. Not a complaint, just a statement regarding our situation. Is what it is. Let’s at least amass some wins at the start in order to build confidence and experience.

-Tennessee is going to look past the Pack just like the Pack looked past the Cats. 24 - 21 Pack.

-UT is a lot better at home, i'm sure they travel well but i wonder if this neutral site being in NC will give us any advantage.

-If you want easy money, you turn your head at the betting window and take Tennessee.

-Tennessee is going to roll us. They are easily a top 2 team in the nation.

-Tennessee will win by 20 plus, it is what it is.

-Against the Vols, we need our kicker to kick every kickoff out of the end zone. We need zero turnovers, minimal penalties, and no stupid penalties.

-I have zero hope after seeing Tennessee yesterday, their qb didn’t even play the 2nd half and won the damn Heisman.

-This game is going to be like the gator bowl game against Texas A&M, a blowout. We lose 56-21.

-I saw way too much from UT yesterday to even think we have a prayer on Saturday night. Tennessee is a playoff team and likely a national title contender.

-WCU beat Chattanooga 52-50 last Oct. Chattanooga scored more points on them than we did.

-Did y’all see those Tennessee offensive and defensive lines? They will destroy us.

-Those Tennessee receivers will have a field day.

-Tennessee travels very well, they’ll out number us, there’s zero advantage.

-That Nico kid is one of the absolute best college qb’s ever and they will torch us.

-I want to feel good about this one, but if we couldn’t pressure WCU, what makes anyone think we can pressure Tennessee?

-Tennessee’s first string may sit out the 2nd half of this one too. Tennessee is a damn good football team and may be even better than they were in 2022.

-Show up, tailgate and have fun, but we ain’t winning this one.

-Tennessee was very nice yesterday, they could’ve easily scored 100. They’re good and we’re not, it’s a loss.
Well that's no fun....I prefer opposing fan bases with delusional outlooks.

WCU gave Heupel plenty of film for him to plan his offensive strategy play by play. NC St will try to slow down the game and run clock, but I think the Vols score 40+. Defense will hold the Pack under 21 as our D line will make running difficult and impact the timing of their passing game. Should help out our DBs.

Gotta know NC State's place in the ACC.

There's the whole Clemson-FSU-Miami thing riding over the top of the Wolfpack, a tier they never reach. Kinda like anyone other than Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State in the B10. It's just not attainable, that upper tier.

And then there are the four horsemen of North Carolina. NC State is the younger brother, but not the bastard child (that's Wake Forest). They both have to sit in the back seat while their big brother, UNC, drives and dominates the conversation. Unless the topic is basketball, and then Duke's right up front with the Tarheels.

So now NC State is buried beneath two higher stratified layers of the conference. Even when they think they're gonna have a great year, something deep in their psyche tells them they can only get so far.

And that's perhaps why they're the "most realistic" of opponents we've seen in the last few years. They're primed to be this way.

In the Army, I had several friends who were Wolfpack grads. They all lived in this complex mental state when it came to sports.

Go Vols!
It's all good times..they don't play an S.E.C. schedule they are media glory boys that have a couple hard games a year...bored with their press..4 yrs now quiet frankly...?

Their defensive coordinator was also an assistant at Stanford with Harbaugh and Beamer’s been busted in the past for some sign shenanigans at VT.

100% agree. Everyone calling a blowout (including the national media) is making me nervous.
