We let off the gas big time, actually the whole game on offense was played very conservative. We could of scored 50 with the offense opened up. Really do not understand why he did not open up the offense.
Because the field was atrocious and we were able to win with our defense. Don't risk injury if we don't have to.

Further proof that every fanbase has the same types. You’ve got your “reasonable but passionate group”, then you’ve got your “dramatic/negative” group, your “unrealistic group”, and you’re “not impressed with the team we lost to” groups. Lastly, you’ve got your “referees hate us and everything is an elaborate conspiracy against us” group, which is most dear to my heart.

Lord that’s a serious amount of butthurt and I’m very disappointed in them. Let’s be honest, this was a statement program win. Defensive slugfest and this is NOT what we’ve been known for under Heupel. Very significant. This is what “taking the next step” looks like.

To be honest, OK had terrible defense for the past 15 years. I don’t know that they turned it around that much this year. We struggled for more reasons than just their defense.

-This game was over midway through the 2nd quarter. Heupel knew it and ran the clock the rest of the game. It could have been really ugly.

-It's easy to win in Knoxville. OU Will do just that next season with an even better defense and a much improved offense.

-We could play Tennessee 10 times and not beat them. Completely dominant

-This is an all-timer “Score kinda close, but really a blowout” kinda game.

-Tennessee did not impress. After all I've heard, I expected a lot more than that.

-Tennessee will lose 4 games this year. Not impressed.

-Tennessee would have thrown the ball down the field more if they needed to…and I think they’d have had success doing so. So hard to say we’d have won, we’d have been more competitive. Tennessee would not have spent most of the 2nd half running the ball into a loaded defensive front.

-Not saying Tennessee isn’t a good team, but not nearly as impressive as what we were sold.

-34 yards rushing and 4 turnovers and lost by 10 to the best offense in the SEC.

-Great win for Josh.....happy for him after what happened here. Meritocracy always beats nepotism.

-We might have won this game if Hawkins was the starter. We will be ok moving forward.

-Hats off to Heupel for the good sportsmanship. Thought he’d run up the score. Glad I was wrong.

-Sooo… the ref with the Tennessee accent was reviewing everything?

-Defense did very well except for some downfield passes to Bru. Heupel knew he had the win so opted to not go for the total kill or at least that's what I think happened in the 2nd half. Hawkins shows to be the next direction.

-Tennessee is the luckiest team on the planet that we didn’t start Hawkins. We would’ve blown them out.

-I’m pissed because Tennessee isn’t even a good team.

-The refs obviously protected Tennessee tonight. Clear as day.
There are idiots on every board.

Case in point:
“It’s easy to win in Knoxville “

“The refs protected Tennessee tonight “
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m amused at the ones who didn’t pick up on Heupel calling a conservative game plan to protect his QB with injuries to the tackles. It says a lot about their defensive line of course but we didn’t even try QB runs until Nico put the game away.
Amusing but not surprising

Yeah guys were literally slipping from the first snap on. Really dk how people don’t realize that coupled with the two injuries on the line is why the play calling drastically changed as the game went on.

To be fair, our first team offense has played what has amounted to about a game and half together before tonight. The o-line was not good (68 had a terrible night)…injuries are a big reason why. Heup hedged his bet on the dominant defense, tried to scheme enough on the ground to score a few more points (we did) and walk it back to the locker room with his QB still upright (he did). Venables went to Hawkins and it did pay off. The kid was able to avoid the pressure occasionally and make something happen. That OU defense might be the best we see this season. As fast and nasty as we are, they aren’t far behind. After the 2016 season, I swore I’d never take another good season or big win for granted. I enjoyed this one.

Sampson and Bishop earned some tough yards in this game.

This game was a DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE.

Given we are going to be playing Oklahoma about 3 out of every 5 years, Heupel is going to have to get over his affection for Oklahoma, at least when we play them. Him not wanting to show them any disrespect could have very well cost us the game.
I doubt it has anything to do with sportsmanship. Heupel is a competitor. He would've loved a blowout.

We had the lead. He didn't want to stop the clock. And without Heard / Campbell, I don't think he was confident in our protection throwing the ball down the field.

I'd say it's pretty much that simple.

hell, a bunch of our fans aint figured that out
We have a bunch of "fans" that would find something to whine about if we went undefeated, unscored on, and won the National Championship! The only ones "upset" about this would be knuckleheads that gamble and picked the over. We were 7.5 point favorites. Last time I checked, we won by 10 ( which is more than 7.5) in a hostile stadium. It was the first road game for Nico, a banged up OL and we beat our second top 20 school of the year. I was annoyed about the extremely conservative game plan, but we won the time of possession by a substantial amount as well. Great all around game.

Yeah idk about that. Our play calling was pretty awful in the second half.
CLEARLY…We were trying to run clock and get out with a win. OU was loading the box but this game became a physical rock fight….and Vols did EXACTLY what you do when that happens….play strong defense and use a manageable run game for your freshman QB.

Truth be told, Oklahoma did not have a single player on either side of the LOS that was better than his counterpart for Tennessee. Not a single freakin’ one. Heupel could have blown them out if he chose to do so. He took mercy on them the second half.

It wasn't about respect. We had a QB playing his first road game, with both tackles hurt, and already had 2 turnovers. The only way OU could win the game is if we continued to turn the ball over. When u have a defense playing like ours did you simply take the air out the ball, play field position and ride your defense. If anything, we learned that we don't have to score 50 to win. We can win by playing suffocating defense.
