What other message boards are saying (Oklahoma Post Game Edition)

-This game was over midway through the 2nd quarter. Heupel knew it and ran the clock the rest of the game. It could have been really ugly.

-It's easy to win in Knoxville. OU Will do just that next season with an even better defense and a much improved offense.

-We could play Tennessee 10 times and not beat them. Completely dominant

-This is an all-timer “Score kinda close, but really a blowout” kinda game.

-Tennessee did not impress. After all I've heard, I expected a lot more than that.

-Tennessee will lose 4 games this year. Not impressed.

-Tennessee would have thrown the ball down the field more if they needed to…and I think they’d have had success doing so. So hard to say we’d have won, we’d have been more competitive. Tennessee would not have spent most of the 2nd half running the ball into a loaded defensive front.

-Not saying Tennessee isn’t a good team, but not nearly as impressive as what we were sold.

-34 yards rushing and 4 turnovers and lost by 10 to the best offense in the SEC.

-Great win for Josh.....happy for him after what happened here. Meritocracy always beats nepotism.

-We might have won this game if Hawkins was the starter. We will be ok moving forward.

-Hats off to Heupel for the good sportsmanship. Thought he’d run up the score. Glad I was wrong.

-Sooo… the ref with the Tennessee accent was reviewing everything?

-Defense did very well except for some downfield passes to Bru. Heupel knew he had the win so opted to not go for the total kill or at least that's what I think happened in the 2nd half. Hawkins shows to be the next direction.

-Tennessee is the luckiest team on the planet that we didn’t start Hawkins. We would’ve blown them out.

-I’m pissed because Tennessee isn’t even a good team.

-The refs obviously protected Tennessee tonight. Clear as day.
Some of these guys are completely oblivious to the fact that they are in a real conference now.
They better buckle up and expect a damn dog fight every weekend!

They might be jumping a bit early with this take. I don’t think we prepared at all for Hawkins was the problem, didn’t think we were gonna have to. They definitely weren’t gonna blow us out regardless.

The 4th quarter reminded me of the 22 UGA game. 28-10, but the game wasn't really that close.

Micheal Hawkins was put in the game because they felt more comfortable with the ball in his hands when the pocket collapses and QB is forced to improvise. Arnold's instincts were a bit slow compared to the speed our blitzers were getting in his face.
If Hawkins is their QB going forward, points will be at a premium for OU. I think Arnold gives them their best chance to win against most defenses they'll face in conference play, but their OLine is going to get a QB injured.

Their defense will be enough against AUB, USCe, and maybe LSU; not sure about that one. Ole Miss, Tex, and Bama will just outgun their offense.
OU vs Mizzou is shaping up to be an interesting matchup. Both defenses will simply maul the offenses. Vandy exposed the fighting Drinkwitzes yesterday.
Vandy is a mentally tough team. Coach Lea and staff is making them competitive against much better rosters. They are a handful of plays from being 4-0. The difference was Mizzou was averaging 1yd more per carry than Vandy.
I love the SEC when Vandy can't be overlooked. It just makes for a lot more interesting games to watch.

I was at the game, I thought their fans were a lot like ours. 99% were super nice and welcoming, even after the game. On the way in the trash talk and “you’re about to find out what real football is” picked up quite a bit, but in general still nice.

I sat beside 4 fans who had been at the 2014 and 2015 games and they were great all night and very knowledgeable about both teams histories. When the Jumbotron showed their decibel level maxing out at about 90, they commented on how much louder Neyland was and what a great game day experience it is.

I will say that OU fans have a weird complex about Texas. I heard negative stuff about Texas and “horns down” all night. You would have thought they were playing Texas all night….it was just weird.

All in all a great time in Oklahoma and a fan base I think will fit in well in the SEC.

On the game….we dominated a good team on the road and CJH coached his best game in orange. Win the way you can win, even if it’s different than the original plan. It wasn’t long ago we were in OUs shoes, with a QB controversy and a coach who you aren’t totally sure is the answer.

Welcome to the SEC.
First years are always the hardest to accept reality.
OK is playing in the big boy league.
You need to get to big ball football field conditions and not water it down or make it mush.

Exactly
The refs were atrocious
They singlehandedly changed the outcome of this game by 14 points with the ghost holding call on that huge run down to their 9yd line, and the bullcrap roughing the passer AFTER a tipped ball which gave them a fresh set of downs at our 4yd line.

Not to mention that they NEVER called a single holding penalty against OK despite obvious holds on passing downs AND running plays....never once called pass interference on OK either.

We beat a top 15 team handily on the road tonite....plus a couple refs...despite playing Johnny Majors 3 runs off tackle and punt offense for the entire 2nd half. This game could have easily been a 24 point win instead of just 10 points. Easily.

I disagree that it could have easily been a 24 point win.

Football is far more nuanced than a lot of fans realize. Heupel saw that their defense was disrupting Nico's pocket constantly. He also saw that our D was able to make every yard a challenge.

Therefore, he knew that if he reduced their chances to get more turnovers, their likelihood of winning was tiny.

So he chose that route, correctly. Great job all around, huge win.

I can relate, I have a weird complex about Texas as well...I hate them.

Hawkins' running around for his life looked like the old Archie Manning games back in the day with the Saints and Oilers.
Hawkins is barely a step up from klubnick, and Definitely not ready for SEC play, but good practice for facing Lagway at UF.

OU will struggle to score with Hawkins once teams game plan to take away what he does. Arnold gives them more options but the mistakes kill him.
I agree. And with the way the game played out we did exactly what we needed to do in that situation. I do believe Arnold's mistakes were a direct result of our aggressive, gap filled, edge speed pressure, lane clogging defense. Going out on a limb here...but OU probably faced the stoutest defense (or maybe top 2-3) they'll play all year.

Yes, why did Hype do this?
I can't say for sure but my suspicions are that he analyzed the way the first 30 minutes went and determined this approach was the most likely to net a win.

I think this dumb bastard only cares about winning, and just totally ignores the fact that we want points!!!

He needs to go.

The team OU ran onto the field last night was probably a 10-2 Big XII squad, but they’re most likely gonna be 8-4/7-5 in the SEC. From the looks of their remaining schedule, OU may have had all the fun they’re gonna have this season

I hate the expansion of the conference, but long term, OU will fit right in. So will TX.

Both good football schools.

Think about the late TD given by the refs! Vol defense swarms QB and attacks him as he tries to throw the ball! Ball is knocked to the ground is what was clearly a fumble and picked and returned for apparent TD! But wait! Flag on the play! In defenders overzealous attacking the ball and arm of QB ref thinks the attack was too close to the QBs head! So, personal foul half the distance with first down on the one! In my life, that’s the worst xxxxxxx call I’ve ever seen! Period!
