What was actually going on with our AD?

I saw a story yesterday on his demands in his 400 page manifesto. Demanding a GM to manage recruiting while he has complete control over coaching of course.

So, how in the world does the UNC athletics director go out and hire Bill Belichick in a week?

What exactly were we doing when we hired Dooley…….Jones……Schianoooope……Pruitt? Hell, at one point I was even thinking ol Phil was about to get his job back.

For the record, I’m perfectly happy and content with what Coach Josh has done for the Vols. Just blown away that they were able to pull that off at UNC. Do we have an official list of coaches we interviewed since 2008? Surely none of them were anywhere close to as high profile as Belichick….
The UNC AD didn’t go get him. This was done over Bubba’s head by people who are pissed at him for firing Mack Brown. This has been just as dysfunctional as we were or Auburn had been. Belichick may end up being a good hire, but that remains to be seen. I’m guessing Bubba Cunningham will be an AD somewhere else or retire by this time next year.

Oh, but he’s no Dooley, Jones, or Pruitt lmao. Those clowns are middle school coaches compared to Belichick….

To be fair, Dooley and Pruitt were emergency hires. You are generally not gonna get the cream of the crop when you are desperate. Now there is no excuse for Butch Jones. We apparently struck out on our top targets in 2012. And of course the GRUMORS were never true.

UNC has also likely been targeting replacements for Brown for a a good but longer than 2 weeks. Mack Brown apparently informed the UNC Athletic Department earlier in the season that we was retiring after the year, but he wanted that information to stay in house and tell the team on his own timeline.

Belichick views the North Carolina job as a short term gig as evidenced by the 3 year $30 million dollar contract that he signed.
Yep. His young girlfriend done went thru his money and he needs more. I don’t look for him to do anything. He was only great when he had Brady.

He openly supported Trump while the media was on a witch hunt. That’s the only reason The GOAT isn’t welcome in the NFL anymore.
Won a Super Bowl since then. He stopped winning. That’s what the NFL hears.

He may end up sucking…. May not be able to relate

100%. Big name, but a difficult school to recruit at and who knows how well Bilichick can recruit at a high school level. Honestly, the success that Brown was able to have was pretty impressive when you consider:

1. It’s a basketball school
2. The best recruits in that region are being poached by Georgia, Tennessee, Florida etc.

Lol, no.

This is why he isn't wanted by any NFL teams

Without Brady as his QB, he's a pretty mediocre coach at best.

Does that really make sense to you?

Reid never won anything for over a decade but he kept getting chances. Tomlin hasn’t won for a decade and still keeps coaching. Harbaugh hasn’t won since Ray Lewis retired, but he keeps coaching. Fisher never won anything, but he coached for 2 decades.

No one is clamoring to hire a 72 year old.

Going back a decade, Tomlin has one 8-8 record…otherwise it veers 10+. But the Steelers are a different animal. He’s their THIRD HC since the 60’s. 😏

Reid went to a SB and won consistently til his final season in Philly and see the dynasty he’s built in KC

Baltimore is annually a contender.

I’ll give you Fisher. He coached them to a SB and coasted the rest of the way.

Especially to build a program
He’ll build their culture and fundamentals. He inspired Saban and the Process, but doesn’t own the car lots or have that salesman mindset. The doghouses he utilized for players under contract won’t fly with youngsters imo.

Mike Hamilton was a really bad AD. BTW, Belichick is the GOAT in the NFL, however, the jury is still out on him coaching college athletes.
