What was up with the call on the Fant to Hyatt TD?

There is no conspiracy. It was an opportunity to put something on film to keep defenses honest. We are using Fant a lot more in the run game and we want to force safeties to stay with their pass assignments longer than they might otherwise. Its a smart play. Also, its better to have Fant throw it in a meaningless situation rather than when we need him to execute. Now the coaches know he can air it out if needed. And so do defenses.

Wasn't this not long after Jalin got into it with the Martin Defensive player? He said something that had Jalin going off, and he was still pissed on the sidelines. Maybe in my head, but the tone of game seem to change after that like the kid gloves came off.

What about the pass to the endzone to end the game (which irritates me that that goes on the turnover margin stat)?

In my opinion it was not as much about Ty going to Bama, but how the family handled it after Heup was named coach. I live near Martin and gone to some of their games. I don’t know if it was just some angry Martin fans that wanted him to go to TN, but rumor was the family showed no respect to Heup and it was if he was not good enough to coach TY.
After seeing that play and after the game Heup just patted him on the back with no conversation sort of makes me think it was a little rub in.

I did not either at first, but after thinking about it how can we not trust Heupel to know what is best.
And, he may be setting something else up from that play.
I mean I would agree but Fant isn’t used to normally throwing the ball in a big time situation. Hyatt bobbled that ball several times before hauling it in. Likely was put on film more to slow pursuit on the edge.

Well to be fair, we were on our fourth string QB by that point weren't we?

I mean, we have to bust out QB4 vs GA in a few weeks-we could be in just a bit of trouble.

Not gonna lie, didn't like us using it on UT Martin.

I am not sure you'd/we'd like it on anyone that they play from here on out other than maybe Vandy. I think most SEC teams would have stopped it and prevented the pass from being thrown. Hats off to them, I never would have imagined that would be called, with Fant throwing at least. I'd say it's a reward for a senior/team, letting them have fun against an opponent they knew they'd execute it against. Just my guess.

My opinion, it was coach Heupel's way of getting Fant something else on film for the NFL scouts.
I've seen a LOT of NFL teams using the TE more and working that passing skill set onto game film does nothing but help the man's draft stock.

I agree…this truly wasn’t personal…it really is business. I don’t think Ty, or Jason or any other petty thing was the issue. Just running our offense. JMO. On another issue…I love the way Josh holds our 2nd, 3rd and etc teams accountable and expects them to perform as well. We practice during the week FOR YOU TO EXEXCUTE!
