What we are getting with Barton

I have not seen those exchanges. Apparently, he's a bigger man than I. Are you sure he went to Memphis?

He went to Memphis to get to the NBA. I am sure he is excited for his brother to get more time. Josh Selby is their cousin who spurned UT, yet he has been working out in Knoxville. It is a business for them. Sure, it seems like it has gotten less contentious, but this is their craft, and eventually everybody knows everybody at that level.

AB will be a great addition to UT. But do you really think Pastner would play an inferior player? Do you think Memphis fans would stop filling seats if a Memphis kid didn't get the nod? Do you really think it would have hurt UM's ability to recruit Memphis kids if AB had gotten the nod? Wouldn't sitting AB hurt Memphis's ability to recruit the Maryland area? Your Mtown lean logic doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe you can explain, I'm a little slow.

Well, AB breaking his foot last year really didn't show what Josh would do because it was Johnson's first year. But it is natural that there are only so many minutes with 3 other guards. JJ has turned into a good college player, and Johnson is a freak. I might play AB over Crawford, but even Crawford finally started hitting shots at the end of the year. AB is in a perfect spot- all the minutes he wants.

Memphis State just signed another 4 star big man. Dominic Woodson. Eligible immediately. Woodson and Pellom for Tarik. I will take that trade.

I believe he supports his decision, as a man, but no way he's "proud" of him. I think the fact he broke the news says it all. "Fine, go to UT, but I'm spilling it, immediately, so I can get all the bs out of the way, ASAP."

Giving props to your brother for choosing the school he wants is enough for me. For you to try to deduce something else with no proof. Speaks for itself. Hess brother whose proud and wants success just like he has. From what I know he's not sitting around putting him down for choosing the Vols. There aren't too many of us from the Mtown basing this kid for his choices.

Not really. Its always been that way since Larry Finch. Dude this is nothing new. It doesn't affect the Maryland area or any other place he recruits. This is business. JJ is the hometown kid with skill and he got the PT he was promised. There would be no drop if AB started Memphis is deep with talent. The only problem people have that I know is Pastner getting the most out of his players. He hasn't proven that yet.

Ever seen them play straight up?

yeah, many times. Anyone and everyone knows that JJ is a much better player than Barton. Barton is a decent option as a reserve player but not as a starting PG. Your argument is flawed being that Pastner pulled JJ for Barton when Joe wasn't playing well. Barton gave the guys a quick spark with his toughness but he wasn't a long term solution being that he can't beat guys off the dribble, penetrate the lane and draw fouls, create shots for teammates, or shoot free throws well.

Your last sentence is what gives me some hesitation. I'm in the camp that feels Trae is a better player, but Barton may fit the scheme better. Really wish Trae was still here. If the lights came on for him he could have been special but that's neither here nor there. Barton hasn't been in the position to be THE leader of a team and play big minutes. I hope the consistency continues with extended minutes, but sometimes that doesn't translate well. I'm keeping my expectations reasonable to begin with. They will all need some time to mesh and find their niche.

I saw penetration up the middle, penetration on the baseline, some crisp passing, and good feel for running the break on his film. Not sure about him not beating anyone off the dribble because I just watched it happen multiple times, and with either hand all the way to the rim.

You might be confusing Antonio Barton with his brother Will.

I too have seen them head to head and I noticed no different in talent level. AB is just as quick off the dribble and he beat him more than once. JJ did get his in though. Like I said I like them both but theres nothing flawed about me saying JJ was getting that lean. I just know what I know. It's no biggie whether it's believed or not it's a message board. However AB will take this team to whole new level and Trae wont be missed,

Funny you say that. It's interesting no one wants to believe that. This kid can flat ball. There is no question he's a better baller than Trae. Plus he's automatic when pulls up. This kid is oozing with a confidence without the arrogance. On top of that he's matured since he came to the M which is attributed to his brother. Learning Zo's offense and meshing won't be a problem either. All these kids have played with each other at some point and time. They all hang around each other. There are certain areas in Memphis that you can watch these players ball and it's amazing to watch them ball out and talk Sh$%. AB is the real deal he just needed a little PT.

He's not even close to Golden, He's by far the worst starting PG we have had in about a decade.

My guess is that Barton isnt nearly as good as our posters will make him sound this off-season and not nearly as bad as our fans will make him sound after our first loss of this upcoming season. LOL

I think you are in the neighborhood but we are better with him than we would have been without him.
