What we are getting with Barton

He's not even close to Golden, He's by far the worst starting PG we have had in about a decade.

He walks in as the best pg we have had since CJ. Get someone to watch some hoops with you and tell you wtf is going on during the game.

My guess is that Barton isnt nearly as good as our posters will make him sound this off-season and not nearly as bad as our fans will make him sound after our first loss of this upcoming season. LOL

All we need is some effort, consistency, and for him to keep his head in the games/season and its an upgrade.
Not really concerned with who agrees with me.

The fact that people responded to me and not this tells the story. The delusional is unbelievable.

Easily the best post in this thread. Nobody builds someone up just to tear them down like Volnation.

I don't think some of you understand that we just need a pg to play hard and fast and handle the ball. He can drop to Stokes. Hopefully, maymon will be playing and he knows spacing. McRae will be cutting or spotting up. Hubbs will draw attention.
If Barton isn't hanging his head or walking up the court in ankle weights while killing momentum and a run, its an upgrade.
We made it to the freaking NIT 2 years in a row with the same pg. Some dumbasses think that is a coincidence.
Sorry to be rude.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Not rude at all.

Watch the film

What film? A highlight film? You thin I can't put a highlight film together of trae golden that absolutely dwarfs anything this chump can do? You are very gullible. You think Antonio Barton is better than Bobby Maze?

If barton is better than Maze, Hubbs is better than Hopson, richardson is better then prince, Nation is better than Chism. Hell that team didn't even have anything remotely comparable to Stokes. We better be in the final four.

Barton goes hard left within 5 seconds of his film and finishes strong. Trae didn't do that in 3 years. Again, Trae took us to 2 straight NIT's. I think that sucks. If you think that's good ball by a pg, you can have it.
Goldens highlight film would consist of a hard dribble with his right hand and to the rim or pull up. I don't need to watch 10 minutes of the same move.

I'm with ya. Some seem to be enamored with Golden because he could score 20-30 points in a given game. That's not what we need. We need someone to push the pace, shoot consistently when open, get the ball in the paint, and ro the playmakers on the perimeter. Golden walked the ball up, couldn't work the ball into the paint, and was content to pass it around the perimeter until the shot clock ran down to 5 seconds. No thanks.

Barton can put up bearish numbers in comparison and still be a better player.

People talk about Traes assists, but when was he leading a fast break, blowing by anyone to draw and dish, or making great interior passes to get them?
McRae going on a 3 pt rampage gave somebody about 5 or 6 assists per game during his run.

This is what I keep saying.
Barton is experienced playing up tempo.
Add to that he only turns it over once every 20 minutes and he's just what we need to get this offense chugging on all cylinders.

Agree, though it's worth noting that we should probably expect an increase in TOs given the minutes he will see and the exclusive time at PG. I don't expect him to maintain that TO rate, but he should still be effective.

That won't stop the negative Nancies from throwing it in our face the first time he has a five TO game.

With STokes and Maymon in the lineup together we will not be playing much up tempo. We will play mostly half court sets.

Stokes likes to run. He likes to pin his man early. Jrich and McRae are slashers and run. Our new pg likes pace. Hubbs will play better at a quicker pace. And I wouldn't call Maymon a half court player. At his height, he needs space and slowing down to a half court game means more help coming.
If CM half court sets this team with his motion offense, he should retire.

We started last season running about 62 possessions per game.
We ended the season at 67 per game.
With Barton running offense that could go even higher.
He's accustomed to playing at about 71 per game.
Martin's not that stupid. He was beginning to see what he had about mid season.
And we will see more 4 guard line ups early this season because of lack of depth in the front court.

One more thing we are getting is a little edge and attitude. Outside of one game where he got pissed for a few minutes and took over, trae played with no attitude. Stokes also plays with little nastiness. Part of that's on him. Part on the coach. And part on the pg, who should be up in players faces when necessary. When you don't have that attitude at point, as in you are in for a fight, and you don't have the attitude on the block, when you could be breaking guys arms on the rim, you go nowhere, and we have the last 2 years to prove it. A good pg with an edge can lift a team and a crowd up and lead to W's that may come from something as simple as energy that teammates feed off of, rather bad attitude or poor effort by a leader infecting other teammates.

I am not guaranteeing anything with this kid, but if his head is on straight and cm doesn't mess it up, we are a better team without trae here, now that we have some experience at the position, and in this case to me, it has nothing to do with individual stats. Its about the team and w's.
Hall and trae are two of the lowest energy guys I have seen wear the orange and I'm not surprised they didn't win much while logging a lot of minutes.

Very good post. Most wont realize it, but what Barton will bring to the table is way beyond the stat sheet. IMO Barton is a great fit for this team, he's exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm pumped for basketball season!

I know you have criticized CCM for his offensive game, and he certainly deserves some of it. However, everything you have said recently is spot on. I live in Memphis and have seen AB play. I always thought he was a solid guard, but he was just in a numbers crunch with two very good college players (Jackson and Johnson is a freak), and Crawford is solid although not spectacular. I wanted AB as soon as I heard Trae was gone. I know some dumbasses are trying compare stats and what he can't do, but I will be really surprised if you don't see AB running this team better than Trae. I have liked Trae but have said many times that he was not a good PG.

Some think because you play behind somebody, you can't play ball. Most of them never stepped foot on a court.
